What a cute place! Very much a local restaurant where you figure everyone in the dining room knows everyone else. Much bigger than it looks on the outside.
No waitresses, you order at the counter and they bring your food to you, then you get your own fountain drinks and tea. When you're done eating, you go up to the counter and pay. Don't bother trying to skip out - Kevin is all over that floor and sees everything
Baja, IS and I had hard crabs, jumbos for $32/doz and they were outstanding. Nice and fat, heavy, well seasoned. Don't know where they pulled them out but the meat was very sweet and flavorful. We also had cream of crab soup that was perfect after adding a little salt, lotsa lump crab meat. The hush puppies were good, too, crispy and buttery.
Up on the counter sat several cakes that Kevin had made - a pistachio cake, a peach poundcake, and something else that I don't remember. Didn't have any but they looked good. If I were smarter I'd have gotten a piece of the pistachio to bring home.
It screams to be on the water but, as I told Baja, if it were on the water they'd never get our butts out of the bench and rocker on the front porch. If you don't know where it is you'll never find it. It's tucked away a block north of the west (?) end of the Square in Leonardtown on Park and Lawrence.
I would absolutely go back there. :yay: :yay:

Oh, and something else I thought was cool:
The cakes were in 9x13 aluminum pans like you'd see at a bake sale or potluck dinner. It just seemed very homey and comfortable, perfectly appropriate to the restaurant's atmosphere.

You won't wait long for your food. They know how to move people!

Had dinner there last night. Was very nice. I got the "mini" crab cake and it was plenty big enough.

That was really a nice touch but I didn't have room for even Jell-o. Next time I'll make you two take the rest home to pick for crab cakes. Vrai & Baja; thanks for a great dinner experience!

I see it more as a catchy cutesy way to play up on the 'K' in Kevin... just like the Kardasians do... are you trying to tell us the Kardashians are Klanish? Definately not...

I didn't get it until Hank spelled it out, literally. I was thinking that a "corner cafe" would be bistro-y or perhaps diner-y, not crab house-y.
He actually spells it "Corner" on his website but it used to be with a K, so that's what I'm stuck on.

I love it there. Kevin and his wife are so nice and always great food. I usually get a piece of cake to bring home because I just can't resist. I like it because he buys local as much as possible. In the summer, the salad bar has local produce too. Great place.

I hadn't either. I went their partly because I wanted their salad bar but he had made up garden salads so I had that and a crab cake.

Maybe he had a lot of waste with the salad bar. I think I'll go there this week. Craving the crab cake.

I think he said it was a space issue - the salad bar just took up too much room.

I didn't always get the salad bar with my meal. Sometimes I would get the "take out" salad bar to bring home for later because everything was always so fresh.
