We have been looking for an older model RV or even a bus conversion. We are not looking for a newer one as we would like a project that will not break the bank and that we can redesign as our own. We have also been looking into possibly doing a Skewly but would need a reasonably priced bus to start with.
We have searched and searched online. Does anyone have any website or other suggestions besides SOMD.COM. RVTRADER.COM. RV.NET. or CRAIGSLIST.
Any and all suggestions are welcome. Please shoot me a pm if you know of anyone that is looking to sell their yard ornament as well. BTW, we are not looking for a tow behind as we just sold ours and we don't mind a project either but it does have to run. TIA.

If you have access to the base, there's one or two on the Lemon Lot.
Have you seen the one for sale just north of Buzzy's on the same side of the road?

No base access personally but thank you. I have friends who work on base so I could maybe bribe to check them out for us.

TMI may have a slightly used reactor vessel that they may consider selling to you.
Or did you mean rabies virus

If you have a friend with base access who's willing, they can escort you on base to look at the used vehicles for sale. Don't miss the for-sale lot on other bases as well. There are several fifth-wheelers for sale at Andrews but none appear to be 'fixer uppers.'
Don't forget Craigslist and e-bay.
If a fifth wheel is an option I can hook you up with someone selling a fairly nice one for 3500.00, it is older but in great condition.
its a 1993

We have a 78, that runs well. Did a full engine make over as well as brakes and tires 2 years ago. The inside is liveable but is original, so It could use a make over. The A/C will freeze you. Never cooked inside mainly used it for a sleeping place. Asking $2,000.00. PM if you are interested and I'll give you my number.

If you are referring to the one right before Harry James Rd. I just went by there. It looks nice on the outside but I think it may be a bit bigger than what he is looking for at this point. In ten years when the kids are grown and gone will be a different story as we have often discussed traveling a good part of the year when The Boss is not at sea.

Sorry for the multiple and separate responses but I have never figured out how to multi quote posts.
BCP,
We considered a Fifth wheel years ago when the kids were younger as an upgrade to our smaller travel trailor that we just sold this year. The one we had was great for two people but did not work for a family of five. The Boss has a Dogde duelly diesal I believe 3500 but he has been in the process of changing it over from an automatic transmission to a manual. Of course this is because I somehow managed to blow the transmission in the truck.
We went to my mom's last month and on the way home we saw a Turtle conversion van and I said wow wouldnt something like that be cool to have. We have a 92 Suburban with 3 row seating which is great when traveling with three kids. So we were thinking if we could find a small RV even better.
We have pretty much axed the 5th wheel idea at this point as we do not have the truck converted completely and we are also trying to have as much fuel efficiency as possible. I know it is okay to laugh at the last part.:killingme
He is very mechanically inclined so a project RV is the way to go. He is limited though as he is away two weeks of every month. I saw an ad on CL on Friday and we sent an email of interest asking to loook at the RV. The seller (supposed) reply was that due to so many inquiries he was going to have it looked at by an RV tech and would update his posting next week.
Link to ad attached. UPDATE: 1985 GMC RV for sale or trade - $3500 (Mechanicsville) (http://smd.craigslist.org/rvs/3139681657.html)
To me this response seems odd as if this dude really wants to sell his RV he will sell it and not pull this wishy washy game. I think either A. The wifey wants him to sell his mancave and once he posted the sale he is trying to stall to keep it. or B. Due to the overwhelming response he received he thinks he is sitting on a golden egg and wants to stall and then jack up the price.
Kind of ticks me off that he wants people that have already responded to re-respond next week. So as far as I am concerned that jackalope can take a flying leap.
Anyway thanks for your reply and everyone elses but I think at this point we are looking for a small RV that sleeps at least 4 that hopefuly not break the bank. We dont mind a project and are not scared of high miles if the engine and all that other man stuff is at least in decent condtion and not outrageous to fix or maintain. Of course this is just my opinion and his may alter a bit. He has to drive and maintain it and I get to cook, clean, decorate and of course be the navigater. I even have a really cool laminated trucker map he bought me a few years back.
Makes me wonder why it is laminated though!!:killingme

That is actually very cute and is pretty close to what we are looking for. It might be a bit too cute though.:lol I think it is too far away though for something that we may consider. Thanks for the link though.

Only thing about the VWs based ones is that there isnt a lot of extra motor there. I would shoot for one based on a US maker van chassis.

Yep, that is pretty close to it. Now just to find one.:coffee: That we can afford. We don't have any vehicle payments and don't want any either.

There are some RV's parked at the fence at the CRE campgrounds with For Sale signs in the window.
