View Full Version : Charlotte Hall Vetrean's Home Poker Run
Open to all Vehicles.
This is the only Veteran's Home in Maryland. All the proceed's go to the residents in the form of items from a list requested by the residents. We do this every year and this is our 10th. And we want it to be our biggest yet for our Veteran's at the home.
Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home Poker Run 11 Aug 12 will start at 1100 at the Veterans Home. The last stop will be at the Hughsville American Legion. We will have Bands and other events there to keep all entertained. This Poker Run is Sponsered by the US Military Vets Motorcycle Club of Southern Maryland and is open to all types of vehicles. Our goal is to provide basic items to the residents. The cost for the Poker Run is $25 (all the money will be spent on items from the list that the residents need and we deliver to them). Due to budget cuts at the home, if you do not have a sponser you go without the basic items.
Prize Money is paid buy the US Military Vets Motorcycle Club and is 1st place $500, 2nd place $250, 3rd place $150 and last place is $100
Please pass this on to everyone you know!! This is to help those who served this country proud and now need our help.

Bump
I am hoping to ride in the Poker Run, but I might miss the chance to ride because my family "might" be dropping in on me :cds:
Is there a POC that we can make a donation to in case I or others cannot make but want to donate?

This is a GREAT event. THE BEST POKER RUN IN MARYLAND! I've ridden it for the past few years and it gets better each year. The vets at Charlotte Hall come out and look at all the bikes and you can just see the sparkle in their eyes. If you only ride once a year, this is the time to do it.

I'm in. This'll be my first one so looking forward to it.
Can't find a list of the stops. Any ideas?

Not sure of the stops but I think it ends up at the American Legion in Hughesville. I'm gonna dig around the sponsor's website: index.html (http://www.usmvmcsmd.org)
If anyone finds out anything else, how about sharing?
The stops are as follows: the Tavern in St. Leonard, Lusby American Legion, Abel's in Callaway, Cryer's Backroad Inn in Compton and the last stop is the Hughesville American Legion.
You will receive a detailed map to guide you to all of the stops when you register.
And yes, the 2 hottest bands in SOMD will be playing at the last stop!
Local bands HydraFX and The Sam Grow Band will be at the last stop to entertain.

The total distance is just under 100 miles and will take you through some scenic back roads. You do not have to follow the mapped route if you want to arrive at the last stop earlier. Going direct would cut off about 20 miles.

Seems like a decent number of SOMD.com'ers are going to ride.
I suggest we use  as our colors and rally in the far north-eastish corner of the parking lot. Dude/chick with the loudest pipes gets to lead the pack with the pack caboose playing "freebird" from a boom-box strapped to the back of their bike. Any volunteers for crossing guards?

Thanks. I should call it my "poker run queen" because 20 miles at a go is about all I can stand. So she's perfect for poker runs. :buddies:
Anything longer between stops and I have to roll on my couch rocket, an '01 dresser. But what fun is that?

The longest leg is about 25 miles but it is the last one. You should be able to soothe your aching backside with a cool one. Or two...

anyone was wondering...Last vehicle in is at 430. The bands are playing til around 515 and the winners will be announced shortly after that. Lots of great prizes and the best time you will have all summer.
Just want to check, can we ride this as individuals or do we have to ride as a group?
Puddleducker

This isn't a group ride. You may leave as soon as you registef. If you bring friends, you can ride together or individually. Your choice. You are free to go from stop to stop at your own pace as long as you are at the last stop by 430.

This is a rain or shine event. The residents are depending on the community to help.
The US Military Vets MC will be providing Food and some drinks at the Hughsville American Legion after Party. Some of the stops also provide some snacks along the way-you really have to work to home hungry...

There is enough food to feed a small army! Plus live music and prizes.

Debating......I absolutely love this poker run. I've been able to go on part of it for the past two years. We had planned on attending this one but my husband as to work. Bummer. Anyway, I've been debating about going solo. With the rain, that takes out me riding my bike. I don't do rain and yes, you can can me a whimp. Doesn't matter. This was going to be the first time I crossed a bridge riding and I'm not doing it in the rain.
So, do I go driving my truck or just wait until next year?
bulldog

As much as we need it, I'm hoping the rain backs off some cause I want to do this ride. It'll be our first one and for a very good cause.
I rode 2.5 hours in the pouring rain yesterday (baltimore to waldorf to callaway) and got the bike cleaned up last night. Not taking it out again if it's raining so I'll be in the truck if this does not clear for a bit.

We're watching the radar like hawks..I can't do any rain with the chopper.
What I see right now looks very promising...Wunderground shows very little activity to our southwest with a smallish patch of rain around Petersburg Va that could hit the southern end of the county in a few hours. But that's all I see now.

Superb event. Great weather for a great ride for a great cause. Weather held out until we got to the last stop and were waiting around for the drawings. Skies opened up for a bit and then slowed to a light rain. We hit the road and headed for Callaway, making two pit stops during major downpours before finally getting back home at about 6:30.
We had a lot of fun and met some super folks. Glad to have participated.
