Somebody's FITREP is going to suffer...:whack:
A C-17 on a 3400 foot runway is ok for landing, maybe not so much for taking off.

Reminds me of this little incident that happened when we were living in VA Beach when this C-5 Galaxy got stuck at the end of NAS Norfolk's Chambers Field runway.
snopes.com: Airplane Stuck on I-564 Overpass (http://www.snopes.com/photos/airplane/i564.asp)
One of the military's largest transports got stuck at the end of a runway atop the I-564 overpass for more than 16 hours. It was unable to turn around at the west end of Chambers Field at the Norfolk Naval Station. The incident forced the closing of the field to all but helicopter traffic and made for a dramatic sight for hundreds of motorists passing beneath it during morning rush hour.

Even Columbus screwed it up the first time!!!
That plane was initially designed to take off from a short runway. But I don't believe any have done so since acceptance demonstration years ago.
