The Usual Suspects: ABC's Ross, Stephanopoulos Point to Tea Party in Dark Knight Shooting UPDATE: ABC Corrects, Apologizes--After Blaming 'Social Media' and the Public (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/07/20/It-Begins-ABC-Ross-Stephanolpoulos-Point-to-Tea-Party-for-Dark-Knight-Shooting)

by Joel B. Pollak

On Good Morning America, ABC News' Brian Ross and George Stephanolpoulos suggested that the Tea Party might be connected to the mass shootings early this morning in an Aurora, CO theater during a screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. The mainstream media attempted to blame the Tea Party for the Tuscon shootings in January 2011, shortly after Republicans swept the midterm elections. Now, in the critical 2012 elections, the mainstream media seems poised to do the same--and ABC News has led the way.

Here is the exchange between ABC News chief investigator Brian Ross and host George Stephanopoulos about apparent suspect James Holmes:

Stephanolpoulos: I'm going to go to Brian Ross. You've been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.

Ross: There's a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.

Stephanolpoulos: Okay, we'll keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much.

Limbaugh, Tea Party, & Guns Already Blamed for Colo. Theater Shooting (And Wait Until You See What ABC Did)

(Two vital updates to this story can be seen after the ABC News video.)

It did not take very long for opportunists to try and twist the tragedy in Colorado to match their own beliefs.

(Related: Watch Beck rip ABC for its report)

ABC news has already found someone to place blame on the Tea Party, Brian Ross from Good Morning America:

“There is a Jim Holmes of Aurora, CO, uh Paige, on the Colorado Tea Party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last summer. We don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes, but it is Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.”

Not long after the incident was reported, CNN’s Piers Morgan decided that he would use the tragedy to make his position on guns known.

Morgan’s obvious lack of knowledge about the guns laws in America was pointed out by many on Twitter. Michelle Malkin also tried to teach the Brit some of the positive benefits of gun ownership:

The link in Ms. Malkin’s tweet was tied to a 2007 story about a shooter in a Colorado church (http://michellemalkin.com/2007/12/09/sunday-horror-church-shootings-in-colorado-gunman-reportedly-killed-by-armed-female-church-security-staffer/). Lives were saved that day because of an armed security guard in the church. She saw the shooter and took decisive action.

And then came the blame game on Twitter. Here a just a few of the tweets that want to blame Rush Limbaugh for this:

Hollywood is also going to wake up and hear about this horrific event and find a way to get their names and faces on it. Actor John Leguizamo gets points for being one of the first celebs to stand up (via Twitter) and demand that all guns be taken away.
