‘Discriminates Against a Population’: Boston Mayor Vows to Block Chick-fil-A From City (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/discriminates-against-a-population-boston-mayor-vows-to-block-chick-fil-a-from-city/)
BOSTON (The Blaze/AP) — The mayor of Boston is vowing to block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant near the city’s “Freedom Trail” because of the company’s stance on gay marriage.
“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,” Mayor Thomas M. Menino told the Boston Herald Thursday.
“That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail,” he added.
Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press this week that his privately owned company is “guilty as charged” in support of what he called the biblical definition of the family.
Of course, people flipped out and the company was eventually forced to issue an official statement on its position.
“The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender,” the company said in a statement.
“Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”

As long as the companies stores comply with all applicable laws, the government has no business deciding they cant be there. They are free to believe what they wish, as long as it doesn't affect how people are treated in the store. And the people of Boston are free to not frequent that store, making it unprofitable, so it closes, that's how this works.
Government can tell you how to act, it MAY NOT tell you what to believe, or punish you in any way for holding beliefs it doesnt agree with. Hell, if you cant prosecute or punish NAMBLA, how the hell can you say your going after Chic-Fil-A?

Discriminates against a population
Either this horse's ass doesn't know what "discriminate" means or he has no idea what Chick-Fil-A's stance and is just blindly following the haters.
Or both. <-- my guess

"'We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,' Mayor Thomas M. Menino told the Boston Herald Thursday. 'And if you don't agree, we're going to exclude you.'"

I most certainly do.
For instance - I do not donate money to either the NAACP, nor the United Negro College Fund.
This does NOT mean I am either a racist, nor do I discriminate against - or hate - African Americans.
I have however, donated time and money to the ARC of Southern Maryland... although I find your retarded ass repellent.

And people banding together to decide they are going to punish a business be not buying from them, that's the way the market works. A politician deciding he disagrees with a business and vowing to shut them down? Not right.

"We are inclusive except for those we choose to exclude."
:lmao:
It has ceased to shock me when liberals do not recognize their own hypocrisy; not it just makes me laugh.

By what legal authority would the mayor have to prevent a business from coming to town? If a business meets all the regulations that are subject to all other businesses and operate in accordance with established rules that apply to similar businesses, then by what legal authority can a mayor, city/county council, governor, etc. prevent a business from coming to town?
Sure there can be zoning "problems" for certain types of businesses, but let's face it, there isn't a whole lot of zoning regulations for a restaurant, so if a "McDonalds" could be located in a certain spot, then a Chick-Fil-A could be located in the same spot.

Just because he was elected to govern doesn't give him the power of an absolute ruler. He cannot decide to do things that are against the law just because he was elected. And the bolded part is the key. Unless this business has broken some law, he cannot decide they cant open up.
The owners of the store don't agree with homosexual marriage. They have the right to not agree with things. Would you take that right away? How about when the family that owned Hechingers were hardcore anti-gun advocates that gave thousnads, if not millions to anti-gun groups. Would it have been okay for the mayor of say Houston to say he would find a way to keep them from opening a store? Nope. Let the market decide. Where's Hechingers? Oh, that's right, gone.

Wow , now we have people from Boston here!....:killingme:killingme:killingmeYou really are a mental midget, aren't you? You fail to read things in context and when you can't contribute constructively, you throw out some childish remark. I feel you are incapable of participating in any discussion unless you can twist, spin, or denigrate it.
Why do you participate in forums? Do you feel your efforts make a difference or at least present a differing viewpoint? I'm guessing you could have some valid points, but you hide behind a childish persona that anything valid you might contribute is essentially worthless.

So, gonna respond to the Mayor acting like a dictator, where law doesn't matter, only what you like? Is that okay? How come liberals only like unlimited power when it's on a topic they agree with? Your all about the rule of law, til it means someone you disagree with gets to do a thing you dont like. then it's "screw the law, this is more important than law".
