Mercedes?

I don't think you can judge a person on what type of car they have.

You're not providing enough information for a decision. What were the circumstances of him coming into posession of the car? Does he have another job other than being a minister? What does his wife do? Has someone given him the car?

Trusting a minister must be based on the fact that he is providing the Gospel and that everything said can be tested in the scriptures for truth. His behaviours must also be consistent with the message, but the message comes first.

Woke up this mornin', turned on the t.v. set.
there in livin' color, was somethin' I can't forget.
This man was preachin' at me, yeah, layin' on the charm
askin' me for twenty, with ten-thousand on his arm.
He wore designer clothes, and a big smile on his face
tellin' me salvation while they sang Amazin' Grace.
Askin' me for money, when he had all the signs of wealth.
I almost wrote a check out, yeah, then I asked myself

(chorus)

Would He wear a pinky ring, would He drive a brand new car?
Would His wife wear furs and diamonds, would His dressin' room have a star?
If He came back tomorrow, well there's somethin' I'd like to know
Could ya tell me, Would Jesus wear a Rolex on His television show.

Would Jesus be political if He came back to earth?
Have His second home in Palm Springs, yeah, a try to hide His worth?
Take money, from those poor folks, when He comes back again,
and admit He's talked to all them preachers who say they been a talkin' to Him?

(chorus)

Just ask ya' self, Would He wear a pinky ring,
Would He drive a brand new car?
Would His wife wear furs and diamonds, would His dressing room have a star?
If He came back tomorrow, well there's somethin' I'd like to know:
Could ya tell me, would Jesus wear a Rolex,
Would jesus wear a Rolex
Would Jesus wear a Rolex
On His television show-ooh-ooh?

It's also possible it was given to him by the church. I've seen that happen numerous times, where the deacons or congregation vote to provide a vehicle out of the general funds. For one, if it is used in an official capacity, I believe vehicle expenses are tax deductable under 501(c).

Is it a $35,000 C class or a $100,000+ SL? A new mid-sized Ford or Chevy will set you back that same $35,000.

IMO, that would send a very bad signal to the congregation/community that the organization has too much wealth and is very misdirected in their mission/goals.

Mercedes?

Joel Olsteen??

Graham??

Roberts??

700 Club Preachers??

ANY televangelist??

Does anybody ever think that these people really don't believe, they have their own truth that's why they think it's ok to take your money and live a lavish lifestyle?? They KNOW there aren't going to be paying for it for eternity, so take your money now and enjoy life while they can..

AND if they don't believe, what's the punishment for acting like they do? To them? Absolutely nothing.. They are legally stealing people's money and most people think they are GOOD people..

I don't know what you are talking about.

I don't trust anyone who drives a mercedes.

Especially when those people drive them....they act as if they own the road!

Lay clergy? Or someone who is evidently milking a congregation for his own benefit? Who paid for the car? Did he inherit it? Did someone give it to him? Or did someone loan it to him?

Is the OP worrying about the mote in the minister's eye?

Shouldn't this thread be in the religion forum?

I worry about moats all the time, but that's just because I can't swim...

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, "You know you always have the
Lord by your side"

And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you lord

I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there she'd be off
She'd be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes

So if you're down on your luck
And you can't harmonize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of Jesus
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer, and a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got

So if you're down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

No, but I've heard first-hand accounts of a certain pastor dining on steak every single day and paying cash....in small bills.

I would, but that's because I know I can get a brand new Mercedes for less than a Toyota Tundra, and a half a dozen other cars, right now.

I've been pricing Mercedes and other vehicles for the past year. The Mercedes I want would cost be right around $45K, fully loaded with all the options I want. Other vehicles start at a base price, and then to add all the features I want, I go over $55K.

Right now a Mercedes is less than a Ford, BMW, Toyota, Land Rover, and Nissian - all comparable vehicles. I don't know why vehicles cost so much right now. It's insane.

So the only thing I got is he's just like the rest of them EXCEPT he bought all of his goodies using other people's names...

His list of "riches" pales compared to most "good" televangelists.. I bet near everyone thinks Joel Olsteen is a GREAT compassionate chrsitian man..

Well, he damn sure isn't Mother Theresa..

I think there are a lot of other factors that I would need to know. The religion of said minister for one. Not all religions have vows of poverty.

I know of a priest who came from a very wealthy family. His family bought him an expensive car for one of his birthdays. I also know a priest who if you didn't know better would think goes on a lot of expensive vacations to hawaii and the carribean etc, but really one of his best friends is a producer for tv and takes him places.

Not really a nice Fusion or Cruize will set you back $25k, those are mid size.

But where the Mercedes really costs is in upkeep, an oil change in a Ford or Chevy can be done for $20, the Mercedes is going to cost you $80, I figure the other stuff is also scaled to that.

Luxury cars loose value really quick, a friend of mine has a really nice 7 series that he paid less than $10k for, nobody wants a 10 year old BMW even if it only has 50k miles on it.

I think he should be forced to give it to the people whose name it's registered to, or whose name it was bought under..

BUT if they are already that far gone they'd probably sell it and give him the money for their promised salvation.

Part of the earlier bankruptcy was the courts demanding forgiveness of debt to those who financed the extravagance. Maybe the bankruptcy court should give the money that comes from selling all that property to the financial institutions and automobile makers who paid for them in the first place.
