Make sure you have a phone so people can reach you. :cheesy:
Flat fee between specific points so people dont end up paying for traffic holdups.
I also have always thought that having a hooker in the backseat of all cabs would increase business at night.
you could also provide discounts at night for people that might have a bit too much to drink. Would serve a public need.
No discount for bringing them back to the car the next morning.
Carpool vans would be kinda cool too.
But mostly the hookers. If they were cute enough I would drive down to the area, park at the Wal-Mart, call for a cab, ride around for a few seconds, then get back in my car and drive home.

Offer reasonable flat rate programs for transportation to and from Dulles, Reagan National, BWI.
Partner with the base and local businesses to establish a Safe Ride Home Program.
Build a social media page (Facebook, Twitter, ect) to interface with community.
Have at least a couple larger vehicles in your fleet for large groups.
Join the Taxi Magic network to allow booking through smart phone, text, or online. https://taximagic.com/en_US
Provide safe, reliable, courteous service at a fair price.
Good luck with your venture.

There is a serious need for a cab company in southern Calvert..I would love to call a taxi home from the tiki bar without having to be hasseled or charged for them driving over the bridge. I got an attitude last co we called, I ended up calling a friend instead, no way they were getting our money..we were just being nice because we were out later than we told our DD we would be, anyway.
I love the idea of flat rate fees for popular destinations, labeled and set forth on a website. That way I know ahead of time what to bank on, so to speak. Also, I would love to be able to call earlier in the night, arrange for a ride at a specific time and prepay with a credit card over the phone or internet.
Also, please refrain from hiring stinky and creepy drivers. Half the time when I take a cab I am skeeved out the whole ride home :killingme
advertise at local bars. Too many dummies drink and drive when its so much easier and safer to just call up a cab :buddies:

Are we talking a two cab fleet. Also I heard stories of cabs charging double or tripple in the snow down here, wtf. I am thinking of insurance coverage also for Indy 235. I have to agree with flat rate too, so people will no what to expect to pay for their trip.

Hire prompt, neat, reliable and courtious drivers.
Keep the taxis clean.
Pay the drivers fairly.
Install meters. Its not hard to figure out how much a trip will cost.
You could flat rate airport trips.
Good Luck.

Hire a full time dispatcher so the driver doesn't have to dispatch other cab drivers while trying to drive his/her customers as well as handle cash, etc.
The ability to take credit cards payments would be a great asset.

that would be awesome. That we we could prank call them and send them to phony addresses and yell bazinga in the phone once they call us back asking were we are at.

All calls now come to a cellular phone that one driver carries. That driver in turn will dispatch other drivers as well as take runs himself. No cabs are supposed to be picking up curbside passengers or someone flagging them down without the person calling the dispatch phone first. Sure there are prank calls. The phone numbers are recorded and blocked. "No shows" on addresses? They are recorded, too.
The prank calls don't hurt the cab company, they hurt the driver since the driver is the one who pays for the gas to run that cab up and down the road. The drivers don't get an hourly wage, they get a percentage of the cost of the run. So prank calls only take money for the driver out there trying to make ends meet.

This x1,0000. I have not used a cab around here for quite a while, but I see that the drivers have not changed. Looks like every one I see is recently out of the Three Oaks center.

I am military and will be getting out soon so i like the idea of drivers wearing a set uniform, at least a tee shirt. I am also a fan of running a meter so there is none of this guesswork bull that Chesapeake Cab pulls. Also coming up with a name. Im thinking of something catchy like Southern Maryland Crab Cab.

As to the size of the fleet, yes i will be starting out small with 3 cars. This could all change though depending on how a few meetings with potential investors go. Hopefully they will like my business plan and realize that there is an enormous potential for profit here! In an ideal world i would love to start with 8 vehicles...

You may want to think about adding a mini van. This would be great for groups :yay:
and Im sure you will not be like the others were the vehicle is trashed and smells like stank stripper.

You should have the vehicle cleaned before the next driver takes it, unless they are assigned cabs. They can do that on their shift, between trips. Unless you are paying by the hour. You are going to need a mechanic that will be willing to put you at priority.
The driver should do a pretrip inspection and note any infractions, also not take the vehicle if it is unsafe.
The drivers may need a PSC license that will have to be aqquired in Balt.
I'm not sure about the regs. in St. M's county. The cabs may have to be inspected.
Hey, Mr. Limousine Driver
Can I ask you a favor, please?
Let her in my door and don't look back here no more
I know you can do it with ease
Although we're on our way from the show
And you don't like to get off the track
Please, Mr. Chauffeur, let's talk things over
'Cause she says she loves me and that's a fact
Can you hear what I'm sayin'? It's not like I'm prayin'
You know because you've done it before
So, why make me wait, please don't hesitate
Just get back here and let her in my door
Hey, Mr. Limousine Driver
I know you know where it's at
Too late will be later, you just read your evening paper
And don't worry 'bout what's goin' on in back

Drove cabs for a living for 10 years.
- re-think the idea of having a driver dispatch the others. Scares me to death anytime I end up being in the 'dispatch cab' and the guy tries to run into oncoming traffic while noting down an address. If you do this, there needs to be some sort of voice controlled tablet/data terminal to send the calls to the other drivers. See if you can contract the dispatching out until you are big enough to hire a full-time dispatcher.
- clean cabs, clean drivers, no air-fresheners, no febreeze. Dirty car still stinks, doesn't matter how much febreeze you pour in. Make sure you have vinyl covers on the seats and clean them out on a regular basis taking out the back bench etc.
- I like the idea of uniforms, looks professional, helps to build a brand.
- meters with receipt printers.
- did I mention clean cabs, clean drivers, no air-fresheners ?
- get in on the dialysis, hospitals, drs office daytime business. Steady money during weekdays. Requires you to provide guaranteed pick-up times, requires cabs suitable for old folks, requires professional courteous drivers.
- fixed prices to BWI, DCA, IAD
- accept credit cards using something like the 'Square' credit card reader.
- absolutely positively no smoking in the cab, not driver, not passengers.
- no eating in the cab by the driver, no burger-wrappers in the front footwell.
- keep tabs on your drivers. Drive around, intercept them, inspect their vehicle whether it conforms to company policy.
- your drivers will make it their mission to rip you off, drive trips off the meter, not punch in extra charges on the meter etc. Keep a close eye on the GPS data vs. what is on the meter at the end of the shift.
- give reliable drivers the option to carry a concealed handgun while on duty (after they go through the process of course, they are carrying currency, have expensive equipment and make bank deposits, all valid reasons if they have company permission).
- plenty of tweakers and junkies. It is still a small community, keep an eye on the police blotter and keep track of the usual suspects and locations. Keep a hotsheet for your drivers that allows them to stay away from those folks.
- put a lockable drop-safe in the car that the driver doesn't have a key to. Publish that fact in the backseat.
- build a relationship with the sheriffs deputies and troopers working the night shift, buy them donuts or coffee, have the drivers call in stuff. Keeps the tickets for petty stuff down.
- printed business cards, refrigerator magnets etc.
- consider getting those dash-cam /DVR systems that shoot forward and into the cabin on a data card. Makes it easier to defend against the inevitable accident and driver misconduct claims. Have GPS trackers in the cars to defend against claims of milking the customers.
- put advertising for local businesses on the partition, trade advertising space for places to put your business cards, pamphlets stickers.
- bribe bartenders at night and drs office receptionists during the day.
- reinforce required professional behavior of the drivers: Radio/music only if the guest approves, working windows, AC based on guests wishes, no swearing at customers even if they are idiots etc.

#### me til i fart
A term used during sexual intercourse by one or more of the participants in a cab to describe how they want to keep banging for a long time (as they dont think a fart is coming in the near future). However in the unlikely event that the said participant does fart would imagine their sexual intercourse is paused or an aw chit happs. ........

Hollywood is the center of everything in SMC, and the cabs charge $25 just to go 1 - 3 miles.
The cabs say that they have to drive from Lex Park so Hollywood cost more.
In Lex Park the cads charge $5 to go 1 - 3 miles.
Hollywood has the three old-time bars, so if you want to truly succeed with a taxis then you need to find a way to include Hollywood at reasonable prices.

meters is not the way to go, otherwise the driver gets stuck with only one fare, when around town he or she can take 3 at a time, since the cab driver is the one that pays for the gas, which is why if they have to come from the park to solomons or california the cost is more..the way it works is.. $5.00 fare= 1/2 to the owner 1/2 to the driver minus taxes and gas..so the driver ends up with pretty much nothing at the end of the day. I do agree with having clean cabs and drivers, now if only cab drivers could have clean customers, believe me some of them smell like they never had a bath in their lives! The cabs need to be inspected by the sheriffs dept. since they are the ones that regulate the cabs. It's a really good idea to have a van too, especially for Vera's and tiki, or the morning after gov cup or screwpile, for a group of people to go back to annapolis, those are some fun times :) most of the time passengers have stories to tell and are in a good mood.

also don't hire someone that is not a people person...it can be fun driving a cab and people will respond the way they are treated in return..if the driver is put out by having to take a fare then they don't need to be drivers. It is all what you make it as to how it will succeed.

i know the way it used to work was wildewood was 10.00, and you could go anywhere back towards the park for that 10.00 for no extra. but if you chose to go further north or to leonardtown or across the bridge then it was extra...and if you don't want to do that then there is always sts they go everywhere for much less and you can take your time..since it also takes a lot longer and believe it or not the hollywood bars use the cabs and some don't mind paying a little more to keep them safe and someone else by taking a cab

They charge $20 just to cross the bridge into Solomons and then it is more to go farther.

I don't remember what cab company but several years ago 7-8 friends and I got a cab from Tiki to Breton Bay and it cost around $60. With so many people it was reasonable. And honestly I would have been willing to pay it between just 2 of us because a DUI is much much more expensive.
What I didn't like was that it took them like and hour and a half to come get me after I called. I was way to drunk to wait that long. haha. I had even called them earlier in the night and let them know my name and that I would be calling for a cab later so they would know I was serious.

What I didn't like was that it took them like and hour and a half to come get me after I called. I was way to drunk to wait that long. haha. I had even called them earlier in the night and let them know my name and that I would be calling for a cab later so they would know I was serious.
You should have thanked them for giving you more time to drink more beer.

I agree. It is so much cheaper than a DUI. :yay:
I believe the Chesapeake Cabs are still running, and I have used them often as I like using the Cabs some times.
They charge $20 just to cross the bridge into Solomons and then it is more to go farther.
The bridge is given like some boundary line as it is $20 minimum from SMC to Calvert County.
Your price is not accurate - unless it is very old pricing.
If that is the current price based on today's gas price, then I would say the new company stands a good chance of gaining quite a few new customers if they can keep up with the demand. All the company needs to do is come in a couple dollars lower and they are still high enough to make a profit and lower than the current company.

When I lived in Lex Park then the Cabs would take us all around for $5, as like to Great Mills or Chancellor Run Rd $5, and I would usually give the driver $2 or $3 extra as a tip, but the same Cab came to Hollywood Dew Drop Inn and drove me 3 miles and charges me $20 and $25 and that made so I saw the tip was already included.
I say the cab simply has to make the price to suit the customer and not make the customer pay to suit the Cab, because you will get more business and get happy customers and then you can make the bigger money.
And it is not usual for any person to throw-up in a taxi, and such a thing can be cleaned up fast with a wet/dry vacuum, if it ever does happen.

And that's how it was run. Prices are based on zones. The cabs home base is Lexington Park. Prices are cheapest closest to home base. The farther the cab in away from the park area the more expensive the ride. There was never a "tip" factored into the price. There was however, ALOT of prices being misquoted because the drivers (including the current owner) did not know how to correctly quote the prices. The current owner was not the "brains" behind the getting the business off the ground. I have a feeling that is what is going on today. Drivers are combining zones and they are not supposed to be. None of the original drivers are there anymore that got the company off the ground. There were only 3 maybe 4 who knew how to correctly dispatch the zones. I am sure the drivers today are doing it incorrectly.
And yes you are correct, the company needs to suit the customer in price. And there were many nights a wet/dry vac was used at the local car wash so be careful what you vacuum your car out with... you don't know where it has been.

you are wrong, customers throw up in the cabs all the time, pee on the seats, leave dirty diapers in there, let their children have cheetos in the cab, and yes if a person gets sick in the cab they should have to clean it up or be charged for it...and if all the prices were suited to fit your kind of customer then the drivers would not make any money and would not drive cabs, they make about $1.50 off that 5.00, the rest goes to the owner..but then again i forgot who i am trying to explain this too....

when chesapeake started it was all about the customer, and what fun it was! but one owner wanted more money, and the other that is not there wanted more for the cabs, would have liked to had limos for proms, courier services and clean well maintained cabs at a fair price....they liked their customers and the customers seemed to like the drivers as well, sadly to see the cabs now is a shame :(

That brings up a very good point:
MD does not require yearly vehicle inspections, but that doesn't mean you can ignore safety. Get REGULAR SCHEDULED maintenance and inspections to catch things before they become issues affecting the riders.

But that calculation is based on some made-up calculation, and SMC is not NYC.
If Hollywood is in your calculations as a high-price-zone then your Cabs will not get much business here.
There was never a "tip" factored into the price.
My point was that passengers are far less likely to give the Cad a tip when they feel that the Cab is ripping us off.
The Cad does not figure in the tip, but us passengers always do.

Whatever you do, dont use a zone system. Didn't work in DC, doesn't work in SMC.
Put in meters, put in GPS, charge per mile driven. Dont 'base' the cabs in any particular geographic location, you cover the county, that's it. Sure there are going to be trips that are a loss because you have to drive 15 miles to get 2 billable miles, but the next trip from that gravel road may go to BWI.
If you have the vehicles and the drivers, offer shared trips to the airports. Market to the military contractors, they allways have transportation needs, offer billing accounts for corporate clients.
