Even though I have base access, I rarely ever shop at the Commissary, although I did stop by there this morning to purchase a few things.
A question came to mind, though.
Do you tip the baggers as well as the person who wheels your groceries to the car?
I only tipped the baggers. Am I a cheapskate because I did not also tip the other guy?
What is a reasonable tip to pay? I didn't have but two paper grocery sacks, so I only tipped $4.

I try to avoid the commissary, but when I do go, we use self check out and my wife NEVER tips me for taking the bags to the car. :otter:

I used to drop money in the tip can, until I noticed that some baggers work harder than others, so I started only tipping at the car after my groceries were tucked safely in my tiny trunk.

I can't answer your question because it isn't worth it for me to drive/sit in traffic to shop on base.
I know at Andrews they do very well. I know 2 retired MSgt's (husband & wife) that only work as baggers. She said they make GOOD tax free money working maybe 5 hours a day. She also said you got to know someone to get a job there.

I tip in the jar, $2-$3 bucks. And always take my groceries out to the car myself. Nobody loads them the way I want, my pickiness about packing, not their failing.

I put a tip in the can at the cash register. Usually around $4 or $5 depending on the amount of groceries I get that day.

And normally the amount of the tip is based on the number of bags..
USED to be you tipped about $.25 a bag.. now maybe $.50 a bag?

Why are they getting tips? Do you tip baggers at other stores? Giant or Wal-mart?

Even when you tip at the car, they take it inside and put in a box. They all split it at the end of the day.
Plus... with only 2 bags, you should be able to carry those out yourself.

Commissary the baggers work for tips.. and only tips.
Unless things have changed recently that's the way it's always been.

Don't think there is enough time in the day (today) to do the pork skanks right..
I would think they would go in the oven like 4 AM at VERY low heat and simmer until about 4 PM..

Tonight's dinner is already in the oven, and I've also made dinner for tomorrow night.
And the homemade cinnamon rolls that I made yesterday rival Cinnabon's version.
It is nice not having a job, but there is that pesky part about not having a paycheck. :nomoney:

I saw that. Poor kid took 15 minutes pulling himself back into his wheelchair.

No, he called you "un-beautiful", but - really now - have you seen him?
Looking at him would make you want to poke your eyes out.
That's why I'm now blind.
But I doubt that anyone thinks of you as anything but pretty. :bann:

I shop at the commissary regularly and have never understood how the baggers can only work for tips. Regardless, I only tip $2-3 when I go through the regular check out line. If it is someone that is working hard and not running their mouth the entire time, maybe more. In my honest opinion, 1/2 the people up front working there should not be.

Actually, I would expect they would make good money considering how many folks go through checkout within an hour...
Let's take a low key/small tip scenario... 6 people tip $2 apiece in one hours time. That would be $12 bucks for that hour just for bagging groceries.
Realistically there are more people per our and the from the posts here the tips are usually better than $2 per person. That is some serious dough for what JPC would consider a "trashy" job.

I tip 10% of my grocery bill & normally put it in the can. Sometimes, if I have a lot of bags, I'll tip an extra dollar or two to the person who helps me load the car.
