Top UK Doctor Admits (http://www.redcounty.com/content/top-uk-doctor-admits-%E2%80%9Cdeath-panels%E2%80%9D-kill-130000-elderly-patients-year)
Opponents of government-run healthcare services were ridiculed by the Left and the mainstream media when they argued that Obamacare and single-payer healthcare systems would create “death panels” that would determine whether or not patients would receive life-saving care.
Sarah Palin became the face of the “death panel” debate, arguing that its flaws would lead to rationed care.
Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin defended her claim that the Democratic health care proposal would create “death panels” in a statement Wednesday night slamming President Barack Obama.
“Yesterday President Obama responded to my statement that Democratic health care proposals would lead to rationed care; that the sick, the elderly and the disabled would suffer the most under such rationing; and that under such a system, these ‘unproductive’ members of society could face the prospect of government bureaucrats determining whether they deserve health care,” Palin wrote in a note on her Facebook page.
Palin’s argument was voted the biggest lie of 2009 by votes cast at politifact.com.
Supporters of Obamacare said Palin was crazy, nowhere in the thousands of pages of legislation did it mention the creation of specific death panels.
However, people able to think a little deeper quickly saw that Palin was right—true, Obamacare did not create specific bodies called “death panels,” but government-run healthcare would create healthcare shortages that would necessitate the creation of an orderly way to ration care. Such a body, faced with more patients than doctors, would have to prioritize care to those who need it most, and would have to divert resources from “lost causes” such as the elderly, terminally ill, and disabled. Some people would then be denied life-saving treatment.
