The Home Grown Farm Market south of the base is featuring milk, yogurt, cheese and other dairy from South Mountain Creamery, which is right down the road from Larry's greenhouse.

:yay:

If it's the same dairy I'm thinking of, they deliver to the DC area. My sister-in-law has or had a milkman deliver milk in glass bottles, just like the old days. I'll bet their ice cream is yummy

I had the great fortune to go so South Mountain Creamery last weekend for an ice cream cone. It was DELICIOUS! and inexpensive. Bought two double scoop cones (HUGE scoops) for just over $4. While savoring the cone, was able to watch the cows being milked and then walked across the road to a barn where there must have been 30 calves in separate stalls. If you go at 4:00 p.m., you can help bottle feed them!! Wonderful outing for the entire family (if you are in the area....about a 3 hour drive from Hollywood).

now if that mobile slaughterhouse up the north end of the county can get some fresh local meats in there, it's one stop shopping.

The location is inconvenient and the open hours are even more so. My tax dollars went for this? I recall they sent boo-koo $ for an additional traffic lane (decel) or something like that. The local merchants in the parking lot at BAE Systems on Saturday is much better.

have you been? yes the location is a bit out of the way (from hollywood) but it's on a major road for this area, very close to where many people work.

not sure how you can complain about the hours given that the BAE thing is only Saturday morning and Home grown is open those same hours plus more.

They already have local meats there, although it is freshly frozen:yahoo:

It might be, I know they deliver all the way down to Falls Church. They have over 25 delivery trucks and yes it is glass bottles. I have already tried their choc. milk, white milk, cheeses and their half n half is so creamy.

Very cool, indeed. Not far from my old stomping grounds in Boonsboro.

You must be thinking of something else. The Farm Market is open three days a week and they have a ton more stuff than the BAE market.

You know what? That my tax dollars went for this.....I'm totally ok with it.

It's about time the tax payers in the lower end of the county got something decent.

Think about it. There is a large contingency of tax payers down here, and what do we have to show for our troubles? A library? A movie theater? Decent stores? A bar? More than one traffic light?

We have a tiny (less than 350 students) elementary school, a crappy grocery store that is turning into a liquor store, a trash transfer station. Nothing else.

It's about time that we got something decent down here.

Really? I didn't see much I wanted. Not near as nice as the one S of the base. They had some good cookies though.

I ran by this afternoon and picked up some tomatoes and cukes, homemade fresh mozz, and a tub of homemade butter.

YUM!!

And there is no additional lane, that's the only issue I have with it, I'm always worried about someone rear ending me.

South Mountain Creamery is about 36 miles from my house. Chocolate milk and other dairy products from there are delicious. Now that I'm thinking about it I need to go there again soon.
