Oh, this reminds me!!! Went for a ride the other evening and I get on one of my favorite off the beaten path roads. Nothing special but a few really nice, tight-ish turns and it's a fun couple of miles...if you've got some room to play, ie, no one holding you up. So, we come out of one of the first corners and...

...a fellow biker is just putzing along. No problem. Not everyone likes going fast and working it. Some people just like to...putt along. So, of course, he'll let us go past, wave us by or otherwise GTF out of the way. He'd never hold up a fellow rider.

Right?

I couldn't believe it. Joe Effing Kewl and his pipped up Sportster. Got the HD long sleeve T. Got the leather grip tassles, the cowboy boots, the whole 'look' right? So, let a bro slide by. Right?

Right?

I could NOT effing believe this. No where to go for a few miles. Just sit there behind Sir Richard.

In any event, even fellow bikers can be dick heads. Lead, follow or GTF out of the way.

It's just that simple.

True, however the max speed is set, you are allowed to drive under, so the passing is actually for passing those that are legally driving slower in the right.

Pretty sure a ticket for going the speed limit is not really going to hold up in court.
Personally, I would love to get that ticket, once the judge gives me to ok to drive 10, 15 or even 100 over the limit, Im good to go.

If somebody wants to drive faster than you, what's the big deal?

What if somebody in front of you is doing 10mph below the posted speed LIMIT and you cannot pass? Perfectly legal. Should they respond with an F-U and slow down further when you want to get by?

Get over yourself.

Well, no big deal but, it is safer in the left lane when the right has the on and off ramps.
as far as being in the right doing 10 under, I get behind them all the time, I dont tailgate them, I hold back, If I get a chance to pass I will, if not. oh well, I've never been in such hurry that I have to be annoyed.

It might be because I drive something that might cause people to think I am trying to intimidate them with, so I make sure I don't.

Cops are emergency vehicles, they are bound by a different set of rules.

but I also notice that the speeders are pretty quick to hit their brakes when they spot an officer on the side of the road running radar.
If its legal to speed in the left, why do they hit their brakes? or, do they actually realize they are the ones breaking the law...

I have never sped up in the left just because I saw radar.

so, if I do 63 thats fast enough to make you happy?
Just trying to get an idea what the legal speed is here.

by the way, do most accidents happen by people going straight and maintaining their speed, or would you say the odds of a accident go up when people are making a lane change

So, by your own admission, you are increasing the risk of a crash, by making all the people passing you on the right do more lane changes. Good work. You are being selfish. Decreasing your risk by not using the lane that has people entering and exiting, but increasing the risk of others by forcing them to move over and back.

Im not increasing the risk of anything.
now if I did 45 the the left lane of a 55 highway, then your statement would be correct.
however, if I do 55 or even 60 in the left lane of a 55, I am not responsible for anyone making bad choices by breaking the law when the drive like an ass.
its all on the person that has a hard time understanding the law.

You indeed are not making anyone speed, and the choice to pass you is their choice. However, I think you are ignoring reality to justify your selfishness. The reality is that people tend to travel 5-8mph over the limit or better in the left lane. Legal or not, they do, and thats not going to change. And your choice to say say "screw them" and linger there makes you the obstacle. A legal one, true, but what's legal isn't always whats right. Which is my point, being legally right isn't the same as being right. As an extreme case, NAMBLA pedophiles have the legal right to form a group dedicated to Man-Boy Love. Is that right? I think not. You hogging the left lane so you dont have to deal with merging traffic, to the detriment of hundreds of other drivers, not right, IMHO.

I was driving on 95, north of Baltimore, this morning and I HAD to drive in the right lane if I wanted to drive a consistent 68ish (in a 65) without braking or needing to change lanes every 10 seconds. Everyone on the road was in the left two lanes, and the two right lanes were pratically empty. :ohwell:

What that tells you is that the speed limit is set artificially low on that roadway. There are supposed to be surveys, and the limit set to the 85th percentile speed.

Funny you should bring that up. Modern highways were designed for travel at an average 70-75 MPH speed limit. They were changed to 55 MPH in 1978 due to the gas shortage to conserve fuel thanks to that p***y Carter. We're lucky to have 65 MPH speed limits now.

Hell I remember when some highways through the deserts out west didn't even have speed limits.

Eer...I mean my Dad told me!:blushing:

What makes me mad is that plastic bag that's headed to the side of the road. You’re thinking “okay, it wont get stuck under my car”. Then just as you get to it, it shifts towards you, goes under your car. You look in the rearview mirror and don’t see it. You just know that thing is fluttering under your axel and people behind you are laughing at you.

STOP LAUGHING AT ME! :smack:
