"During a trip to Israel, Mitt Romney hailed the nation’s health care system for holding down costs and broadening coverage more effectively than the U.S.
The irony: Israel contains costs by adopting a very centralized, government-run health care system — anathema to Romney’s Republican Party.
“Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the GDP in Israel? Eight percent. You spend eight percent of GDP on health care. You’re a pretty healthy nation,” he said Monday at a breakfast fundraiser, according to the New York Times. “We spend 18 percent of our GDP on health care, 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, compare that with the size of our military — our military which is 4 percent, 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of GDP. We have to find ways — not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”
Israel’s health care system is an instructive exercise in all that rankles American conservatives — replete with government mandates, price controls and centralized payments funded mostly by high taxes.
Reformed in 1995 on the basis of a European model, Israelis are forced to buy insurance from one of several competing not-for-profit plans, which are heavily regulated by the government, according to the journal Health Affairs.
The state requires them to cover everyone regardless of health status, and establishes a broad benefits package insurance policies must provide, updated annually by a committee of appointed experts.
The government pays the full cost of these policies, mostly through higher taxes.
The state also caps the level of annual revenue hospitals can earn from an insurance plan. Care is largely delivered through government-owned facilities; there are private providers, but they tend to charge more."
Mittens just doesn't have a clue.

A pretty damning statement and further evidence of Obamacare as an epic failure, isn't it?
I mean..wow...8% of GDP spent on health care in Israel compared to 18% here and even more beyond that as the rest of the Obamacare features kick in?
Thanks boy. It's not often that you post articles so unflattering to your hero Barry and his failed programs.

Funny "mittens" that is a good one. Romney care was bust so you think Obamacare is going to be better? It's funny how you say Mitt doens't have a clue. Again, what was Obama executive experience before becoming the highest Executive in the Country? His experience or lack there of is really showing but I am shocked on how people still support this marxist.

There are lots of countries with social programs that actually work but they all have one thing in common. They don't share a border with Mexico.

No sense with arguing with these fools. One is probably exempt from Obamacare and one is probably a taker instead of a producer.

So explain to the class economies of scale as it pertains to Socialized Health Care in countries like Israel and Germany, and the United States...
THEN if you're still feeling real good about yourself do the math and tell us what % of the GDP will Obama's health care plan encompass.. as it ADDS to the current costs of healthcare.

Yet everyone hates Obama because he's "socialist" and liberal yet they're voting for someone even more socialist and liberal than Obama.

?? I go to the doc, I get the bill, I pay the bill. How are my health care products/services "socialized"? And what proves I "like" socialized health care?

So - all this research is exciting... How about what the demographic mix of healthcare is in the Israel compared to the US?
Couple items:
(1) poor diet - anyone want to guess how much the average diet is better in Israel to the average American?
(2) Age -The predominance of Israel is youthful compared to the us. 13% in age 65 plus in the US and 68% in 15-64. Israel? 62% and 9% - much higher proportion to the lower end of the bands when you break them out. Where is medical cost highest?
(3) Healthier lifestyle - how much of Israel spent time serving in the military and living a more active/healthy lifestyle compared to the U.S.? Any guesses? Hint: all citizens over 18 in one place for pretty intense training compared to U.S. counterparts which is voluntary.
Anybody want to guess how many more legitimate comparisons we can make to why people in Israel are generally healthier? We could even make a relationship to the Jewish faith in their practice and relationship with god being different from one of greater fear based religion or atheistic disbelief in god/man to the Jewish one of celebration (less stress).
But - don't let me stop gross level comparisons of whole societies with widely different cultures. :yay:

Perhaps the troll got bored with posting personal attacks & thought we wouldn't notice them if it added smilies? Like that would actually distract us from seeing through the propaganda tactic, bless its little heart.

Can you really compare things between a country of about 7.7 million and a country with 311.5 million people?
