"Ouch! This has got to hurt. The August 6 issue of Newsweek ponders the question of whether Republican president-wannabe Mitt Romney is just too damn much of a wimp to deserve a comfy seat in the Oval Office. Reporter Michael Tomasky writes, in part:

Romney is the genuine article: a true wimp. Oh, there are some ways in which he’s not--a wimp lets himself get kicked around, and Romney doesn’t exactly do that. He sure didn’t during the primaries, when he strafed Rick Perry and carpet-bombed Rick Santorum (but note that they were both weaker than he).

In some respects, he’s more weenie than wimp--socially inept; at times awkwardly ingratiating, at other times mocking those “below” him, but almost always getting the situation a little wrong, and never in a sympathetic way.

The evidence resonates across too many years to deny. What kind of teenager beats up on the misfit, sissy kid, pinning him down and violently cutting his hair with a pair of school scissors--the incident from Romney’s youth that The Washington Post famously reported (and Romney famously didn’t really deny) back in May?

The behavior extends, through more sedate means, into adulthood. The Salt Lake Olympics remains his greatest triumph, for which he wins deserved praise.

But to many of those in the know, Romney placed a heavy asterisk next to his name by attacking the men he replaced on the Olympic Committee, smearing them in his book, even after a court threw out all the corruption charges against them."

And what kind of presidential candidate whines about a few attacks and demands an apology when the going starts to get rough? And tries to sound tough by accusing the president who killed the world’s most-wanted villain of appeasement? That’s what they call overcompensation, and it’s a dead giveaway; it’s the “tell.” This guy is nervous--terrified--about looking weak. And ironically, being terrified of looking weak makes him look weaker still. ..."

You're a cruel woman! Normally, I like that sort of thing, but Mitt, nekkid is an image I could have gone without.

October 1987, Newsweak tried the same thing with George H. W. Bush. It was really effective then too! :sarcasm:

I don't get this... If Romney is a wimp how can he be a bully? But really... this is the standard in which Romney will be judged? What he did when he was a teenager?

How does someone who is socially inept become a governor of a fairly large state, become the CEO of a major corporation, and essentially save and run the US Olympic committee? How does someone who is socially inept become a presidential nominee? If you can have virtually not experience at all - all that you really did your entire life was as a community organizer - and that's considered success; but Romney's track record is socially inept?

What real evidence is there of Romney "mocking those below him"? This article throws all sorts of unsubstantiated accusations out there with absolutely no evidence to back it up.

You would think Giantone wrote it.

Are you kidding me? Obama's team accused Romney of being a felon. That is not only an egregious lie, but could be grounds for defamation of character. We have THE MOST thin-skinned president sitting in the WH right now and the author of this hit piece is complaining about Romney?

And for the record………… Obama did not kill Bin Laden. He only gave the order; I mean if we’re going to be accurate. Every time someone says “Obama killed Bin Laden”, it’s a slap in the face to the heroes that actually did the job; and that includes all the intel work to the planning to the actual ground ops. It’s just ignorantly convenient to sit in a nice air conditioned office with a plush leather chair and simply order the pulling of the trigger then saying “I did it”.

Basement dwellers don't go out unless it's dark. Their skin puckers in more than 2 seconds of sun.
