" STAMFORD, Conn. — President Obama has a new shorthand to belittle Republican rival Mitt Romney’s economic plan.
Speaking to supporters here Monday, Obama ripped Romney’s proposed tax plan, which, the president said, would provide a tax cut for the richest 2 percent of Americans — and pay for it by raising taxes on the middle class.
“It’s like Robin Hood in reverse,” Obama said. “It’s Romney Hood.”
The line drew applause and laughs from the crowd, which had paid $500 and up at the first of two fundraisers for Obama in Connecticut.
The dig was the latest effort by Obama to appeal to the middle class by painting Romney’s economic philosophy as catering to wealthier Americans.
The presumptive GOP nominee and his Republican allies, Obama said, believe that if they “give more tax breaks to some of the wealthiest Americans. . . then somehow prosperity will rain down on everybody. That’s their theory, where they will take us if they win.” "
