Good luck. Baby girl got her name like a week or so before she was born. Baby boy was narrowed down to 3 names, was decided after he was born.

Thanks to Kourtney Kardashian, Mason is a really popular name. A certain forum hottie named his son that. It's a great name but I think he'll be one of 9 in his Kindergarten class. Tristan is WAY over used now. My kids have 4 friends named Tristan/en. I do love the name Bryce though.

I'm not sure if you are looking for more traditional names or what, but if you don't want your kid picked on cuz of their name then...

1. Stay away from names that rhyme with your last name.
2. Don't pick a name very similar to your last name. Knew a guy named William Williams. And he insisted on being called William not Bill.
3. Stay away from strange, weird, overly unique names (Celebrities seem to always want to name their kids like this)
4. Don't pick a first name that makes a word when combined with the last name. (example: Actor Rob Morrow named his kid Tu = Tu Morrow, really? WTF was he smokin?)
5. Think about possible nicknames. If you name your son Richard, he might get called Dick. (could be for good or bad reasons )
6. You may or may not want to be careful about unique spellings of common names. I've seen Carrie, Cari, Keri, Kari, Kerrie, Cary, Kerry, Kery all pronounced the same way even thought I didn't think they would be.
7. Watch out for non-gender specific names (remember Pat from the SNL skit - is it a he or a she?) :killingme

If I had a boy, his name would have been Mathew Anthony. My baby making days are done so you can have that name at no charge, but you will have to pay me a hefty sum for the website address I reserved just in case.

On another note, I suggest you read the birth announcements every week from now until the baby is born. You will start to see a pattern of most common names at this moment in time, names you will NOT want to use. I did this before my daughter was born, and so far, during her time in school, there has not been another girl with her name in the entire school! And it is NOT a weird name that she can't spell and you can't say......

And another thing - try the kid out for a couple of days before naming it. You have to get a feel for how he acts and looks to make sure the name is going to fit. My daughter was home from the hospital for 3 or more days before we finally picked a name. Her birth certificate actually listed her first name as "NB" (newborn).

Good luck! :buddies:

David

Good strong names! :howdy:

Bad part about David is that it is too common (I like common, but sometimes it is a bad thing). I worked at a company were out of about 150 (there were only 7 women), I swear that out of the 143 men working there, 60 of them must have been Dave. It got to the point were we had to start calling the men named Dave by their last name as if you said Dave, you had to ask which of of the 60. Another 60 (ok maybe not 60, but about 40) were Mike. I think it was a prerequisite to work their as a man you had to be called Dave, Mike, Ron, Bob, Jeff, or Jim. It was refreshing when we had a new employee if his name was not one of the listed, like a Mark or something.

I like Booth (maybe not a good name in this area) and Cooper. First name (especially for a guy) kind of depends on how it sounds with the last name.

Unless the last name is Booth(e) or Cooper.

Anybody submit "Landon"?

Gee... I looked at all the names suggestion on here. Most of them are good names, but they are becoming popular now these days.

Choosing a name for a baby is a hardest task. I have to do it all over again for the third time, and baby is due in July. Oh boy....

Just don't give the kid a name with punctuation in or a misspelled regular name, that is so ghetto and screams ill be on food stamps as an adult.
