My wife used to have a pet rabbit when we dated, so I am kinda fond of them.
This news makes me sick! I am sure it will be mentioned tonight when I get home.

This lady ought to be made to live like she made her rabbits live.
PETA scored in this case. ( I am not all that fond of PETA..we eat meat at my house!)

PETA article (http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archive/2012/08/08/victory-peta-prompts-rabbits-rescue.aspx)...Caution: Typical PATA photos.

From SMNews.com web site..same one that brought you "Tippett news".

222 Rabbits Seized from Lusby Home (http://smnewsnet.com/archives/20717)

( some of the article)

On July 24 the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit received information in reference to an alleged animal cruelty complaint.

On August 8 at approximately 9:33 a.m. the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit with assistance from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Team (CIT) executed a search warrant at 1309 Tongue Cove Lane in Lusby. The location is an animal rescue organization under the name of Bunny Magic. Upon arrival at the residence a practicing veterinarian out of St. Mary’s County visually checked 265 rabbits located on the property.

During her initial exam, she advised that 222 rabbits needed to be seized due to poor living conditions and these rabbits would require further medical care. The 222 rabbits had been kept inside the residence and a one car garage. The remaining 43 rabbits were left on the scene. They appeared healthy and were in a separate and clean environment. The 222 rabbits seized were transported to the Tri-County Animal Shelter (TCAS) and will be held until a final disposition can be obtained.

Can never figure out why hoarding happens. Sad.

Was this lady running a shelter for rabbits? If so, the photos looked like the cages were orderly with water. Who said "air conditioning"? They are rabbits! They live outside. Amish live without AC i think the rabitts can also.

Another example of animal rights gone awry. :1bdz:

Eaten fried frog legs...never eaten rabbit.
Frogs do taste like chicken, only a bit sweeter.

Over grown nails, dirty poo boxes, rodents? Cramped quarters?
Sick rabbits?
Not very healthy conditions when they take 222 rabbits away!

Paella is a national dish of Spain, and an upland version does indeed include rabbit.

In my mind I imagine rabbits running out doors everytime one was opened and coming out of cabinets and closets when opened. I'm not saying this is the case, but how I like to imagine it.

Took my daughter to a seafood restaurant yesterday and it was "all you can eat". I noticed a lot of people getting frog legs and gator. I've never seen frog legs as big as these. I've never eaten them, but apparently they were really good.

The only place in knew in Southern Maryland that had them was Chesapeake Bay Seafood House, not even sure if there are any more of those open.

When I ended up with the domestic bunny that someone let loose, she was very helpful and informative in helping me take care of the bunny. We only communicated via email though. Maybe she meant well but got overwhelmed by dumb people who get bunnies then give them to her?

The Things always get frog legs & gator bites when they visit their father in FL.

I'm so glad they bond like that with him & not with me! :cds:

Bunny Magic Rabbit Rescue (http://www.bunnymagic.org/)

The lady that runs the rescue has been in my store many times. For a long time, I allowed her to post fliers on my bulletin board seeking volunteers.

I am trying to not make judgements about her and her situation- I know many animal rescue people that cannot say NO and end up in what would be deemed a hoarding situation. Many of these bunnies she ended up with were innappropriate *gifts* at Easter, or someone's "disposable" pets.

I remember the A/C supervisor telling me a couple years ago that he had been called out the day before for some rabbits that were dumped on the side of the road in their cages on (I think) Coster Road in Lusby. It was cold and snowing. These rabbits were probably someones indoor pets. My guess is that those bunnies ended up at this rescue.

If not on a daily basis, at least once or twice a week; being in the business I am in; I am asked if I know someone that can take and rehome a family pet (whether it be dog, cat, bird, rabbit, snake, reptile, etc) because "child is allergic", "we are moving", "we didn't realize the dog was going to get so big", "don't have time", "'don't have the money", "dog is undisciplined", "cat is scratching on furniture" ETC ETC ETC

I wish people would quit breeding for money and/or letting their animals reproduce. I also wish people would start taking the responsibility of pet ownership seriously and vow to take care of said animal from the beginning to the end. In a perfect world...

:yay:

the only purpose for breeding is to BETTER the breed... not because they think their dog is good looking (9 out of 10 times the dog doesnt even meet breed standard).... oohhh i think my female would make a good mom and she needs to have one litter..... and then we come to the money thing.

and to breed for drive. such as working dogs.

even most breeders (if they are good) will not breed all dogs.... they should be selective and if there is an issue with the litter or something they are not happy with in that litter.... most will never breed those dogs again.

I call FALSE on this one. There are TOO MANY people out there breeding for a quick buck. Just look on Craigslist or some other page and you will see what I am talking about. Maybe there are good ones out there but there are TONS of greedy ones who do not gove two cents about breed quality or animal welfare.

YES..... there are too many breeding for a buck... they are called BACK YARD BREEDERS...

they breed because they think their dog is good looking, or wants to make a buck.

THESE DOGS WILL NEVER BE WORKING DOGS.... most pound dogs will not have the drive to do a job... THIS is when a good breeder steps in and only breeds for traits one is looking for as a working dog

such as... not all dogs will make it as a police dog... these type of dogs require a certain drive and temperment breed into them.

Service dogs... see and eye dogs, any type of alert dogs.... same thing

SAR dogs..... same thing.

once and a while you may find a shelter dog that has these traits... but not usually.

My kids have wanted rabbits for years but I am very picky about getting them. I told hubby he has to have a covered secure area (even a dog kennel would work) where the kids could take the bunnys out and let them play on the ground and play with them where they are safe before we would even talk seriously about getting them, and he would have to have an indoor and outdoor enclosure for them to live in without supervision. That being said I think the adoption fees here are very high, I would much prefer to adopt than to get a baby from a breeder but I understand why many dont especially with the adoption prices so high.

that is true. However, I have a friend fro Italy and he invited the whole family for an itlian version of paella and it had rabbit, chicken, prawns(shrimp), mussels, for his own twist he added squid. Yummy

This was, after all, a PETA hit. Open letter to PETA on that other web site. Either the bunnies aren't doing any better, possibly worse, or somebody's sticking up for their friend.

Most every dog I've had were strays or abused by previous owners. Every one of them have come to the aide of me and my children when we needed it. To say they would not make good working dogs.....

I think that would be the best thing that could happen is turning those in the shelters that are able, into service dogs...

Instead of paying a breeder thousands of dollars that are pulled out of government coffers... Why not put it to the test before throwing the idea in the trash! It would save the tax payers a lot more money...
