Okay, really?
You're really going to jeopardize a man's job over something that may not be what you think?

Then again, the driver of this van might not pay attention tomorrow because he was on the phone, and smash right into you and Apollo. How would you feel then?
Second, where do you draw the line on someone being on a phone and driving? A motorcycle? The STS bus? Dillon bus? A plane?
Third, people lose their job when they do something retarded and against company policy. This typically includes breaking the law.

Then again it might have been an emergency. OP does not know who the driver was talking to under what circumstances. Was the driver all over the road or was he driving normally?
Newsflash: while I am against yapping and driving, the fact is that many people do it every single day without mishap. I don't know as I'd get all indignant and start filing reports just because I saw someone talking on a cellphone while driving.

Its a secondary offense. Meaning, you have to get caught doing something else (breaking rules of the road) to be stopped for it. When people used to call the 1800 hows my driving number, I used to tell them if they had an issue with the drivers driving, to call 911 if it was that serious. They would often get mad and hang up.
Unverified claims of random callers won't get someone fired, that just seems like angry motorist harassment.
Traffic citations-convictions and arrests-convictions often get a driver fired.
Its not illegal to use your cellphone to call 911. How do you know he wasn't doing that?

That is one of the stupidest things I ever heard! WTF did you pay the fee to have a 1-800 number on your vehicles if you weren't going to do anything when getting a call? :smack:

:yay: Maybe the driver's hands-free device got lost, or became inoperable and someone was contacting the driver about a change in the scheduling. TCLE provides transportation to people (with disabilities) that they support, and this is not a "traditional" type of bus route. They drive a long distance to pick up people all over their particular route. Maybe one of the clients didn't need to be picked up that day and the office was contacting the driver to let them know. It would certainly save a lot of time & money if they knew ahead of time.
MAYBE someone on the bus was not having a good day & they were having behaviors which would require assistance. You really just never know what was going on.
Granted, maybe the driver needed to pull over to use the phone, but there are many reasons why they might not have. Benefit of the doubt?

that driver could have gotten a call from the center saying so and so isn't going today don't go down and pick him/her up. or it could have been drop so and so off at this location as there family will be picking them up there instead of dropping them off at the house. you never know what the circumstance could have been

The driver should not have been on his cell phone while driving. If it was an emergency, he should have pulled over.

I really have no idea why people are coming up with so many speculative defenses for a guy that broke the law...

And I have no idea why complete strangers who don't know anything about the situation want to burn him at the stake.
I ran with scissors yesterday, I speed regularly, I ripped the tags off my mattress right after I bought it, I taped an NFL football game without the express written permission of the commissioner, sometimes I take more Morin that the directions on the bottle say, please don't turn me in.

I just called the authorities on you.

Get used to it. I see bus drivers, smeco drivers, county and state road workers, all the like talking on cell phones. And unless you snap a picture I doubt they can really do much about it.

Most of the time these drivers are talking to their company so their company is certainly not going to care if you complain.

Got stuck behind an als unit weaving about the road while texting the other day. It happens I guess.
It is interesting to see the bandwagon of defense around here though. Makes me wonder if somebody knows that bus driver?

I've seen that guy drive. He can't do it very well when he's NOT on the phone.

I believe those drivers have to maintain a CDL(with a P endorsement) license which allows police to pull them over and write them a ticket of up to $2750, loss of their license for 60 days, and up to 5 points on their record.
