Does GMP suck or is it just me? My connection sometimes can be down for a day or two. (well, now's up, obviously).

But I have to ask them a question so I've been trying to call them all yesterday and today. The phone either rings off the hook or is busy (90% of the time).

I can't get DSL. And the wireless internet service is too expensive...

anyone you can recommend? I thought they're the only cable company here. I'm in Leonardtown.

I need basic/expanded cable channels and high speed internet.

The best way to light a fire under GMP is to formally complain to the County Commissioners office at:

bocc@co.saint-marys.md.us

They will forward it to Bob Kelly at the county IT department who handles the complaints against GMP or call Bob Kelly himself. Also, there is a Cable Advisory Committee open to the public held on the third Monday at 5:45 pm in room 14 of the Government Center @23115 Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown.

Complaints:

-Hire more than two people to answer the phone (Ellen & Chris)
-Stop putting people on hold then dumping their call
-Provide cable internet that isn't out five days of the week
-Stop "no showing" for three consecutive repair appointments in a row!

What I'd like to know is what happened to the Cartoon Network on channel 99. We finally have been upgraded and once that went into effect, that channel has disappeared.

Any ideas?

We noticed that too, RoseRed!

I was wondering if it was just in my neighborhood...

I sure miss my adult swim. :bawl:

okay, so i actually went over to their office today. They're still in business. I told the lady at the window that I've been trying to call for 3 days and I've just been getting a busy tone. The one time it got thru (aside from off hours), the phone rang off the hook. All she said was "yeah, we've been busy". Maybe they need to add more lines or have a queue system so I can be on hold for 30 minutes.

I asked if they're going to close up soon and she said no.

Any other cable + high speed internet companies around here?

And unless you have expanded cable you will no longer get cartoon network, I canceled my cable because of that, really only channel my kids watched and I wasn't gonna pay 43 for them to get it again, gmp does suck.

You know your not working with very professional people here! They have a monopoly in southern maryland and won't change as long as people need internet and cable. To put icing on the cake, they have been given total control by the county to operate in this area for the next ten years!

Ah Comcast. They may be a faceless uberconglomorate corporation out to take over the world, but I gots my cable and High Speed Internet. Apparently I can also get a DVR here shortly.

Yeah, you can argue all sorts of things about them, but they work and they answer their phones.

Direct TV is offering a 4 room package....free Installation and they offer internet service if you have a clear view of the southwest sky. I have 3 rooms with the box insurance(on all 3 boxes) several hundred channels and I only pay $55....I was paying $89 with GMP. GMP cable left my payment in the drop box...they never checked it I guess and then had the nerve to cut my cable off. I went off on them after a 45 minute hold time, they were back out the same day to turn it back on.......then the clerk lied to the manager and told her I had just payed it. I described exactally what was occuring the day I dropped it off and the manager knew the clerk was lying. When they turned my cable back on they took away some of my channels.......said they were part of an old offer that I no longer qualified for.......that was the final straw, called Direct TV and cancelled the cable the next day. They billed me for an entire month after the final disconnect. I sent a nasty email to the office and the finally adjusted my bill. The whole company sucks.

I was told that GMP was owned by Charter Communications which is a major national player similar to COMCAST (http://www.charter.com/). COMCAST seems to be the best as it has a top-notch management team (recall they recently tried to buy Disney).

I am just now trying to get cable Internet installed. They do seem to have a problem with not enough people manning the phones, getting the order wrong, and missing appointments. But, just remember, the real blame belongs with their management and our County Commissioners. So, try to cut the employees some slack when you talk to them. You wouldn't want someone to talk that way to you :)

Cable is basically a state-sponsored monopoly anywhere you go. It has to be that way because it is not practical to try and share the infrastructure among more than one company. There must be some "quality of service" provisions in their franchise contract. If I get time, I'll try to get a copy of the contract and post the relevant sections. They key is to complain to the Commissioners and make them fix the mess. Otherwise, you are just wasting your breath!

P.S. I have DirecTV now. The service, selection and TIVO are excellent. But the Internet is an overpriced PoS.

Actually, GANS is owned by Joespeh Gans. GMP - Gans Multimedia Partnership. They were privately owned until a couple years ago when they received $$ to back their rebuild.

Gans had owned a cable company in Tucson, AZ until it was sold to Comcast a few years ago. They also own their flagship cable company that is based out of Hazelton, PA, where they also own a TV station.

Outside of telecom, they also own a hotel on Lake Michigan.

Joey Gans SR was on the Cable Lab board of directors .. major player in Telcom. and was inducted into the Cable Television Hall of Fame in 2002.

Gans, in general, is a great company to work for. I think the local management decisions are what hurts the system in St. Mary's. County.
