Rt. 5 is shut down in both directions at Ed's Plant World. Over an hour backup between Mattawoman-Beantown and Ed's.
Traffic reporter obviously doesn't know SoMD, she first reported that there was an hour backup on Rt. 5 between M-W & E.P.W., then, as a seperate incident, said that Branch Ave. is shut down in both directions at Earnshaw Dr.
I think somebody needs to tell her that Earnshaw Dr. is the road across from E.P.W. and Rt. 5 = Branch Ave. :loser:

Yup, at least it is close to the hospital.
There was a big one in Hollywood right in front of the firehouse. A bunch of fire trucks and sheriff's cars and ambulances.

Glad I took the bus this A.M. Was asleep before we pulled out of the lot @ 4:30 and woke momentarilly when someone sat down next to me in Waldorf, then slept until we got to the first stop in D.C., then dozed lightly until the stop before mine. Caught the 5:30 metro train (which I usually miss by about 30 seconds to a minute) and proceeded to sleep until we were pulling into the station in Silver Spring.

Yup, at least it is close to the hospital.
Tuesday night there was a bad accident at Surratts (sp) Road, right in front of Southern Maryland Hospital……..the helicopter circled three times before heading back the way it came, crashing so close to the hospital didn’t help that person.

That intersection is horrible. They really need to look at why they have so many accidents there, and what they can do about reducing that. The fatal rate for that intersection is very high.

I'd bet that a lot of the cause is that there's a huge hill there. Someone gets the momentum going down that hill and doesn't stop for a changing light and probably t-bones someone else crossing. :ohwell:
An overpass at that intersection for Rt. 5 N&S would help matters greatly, I think. :yay:

That is exactly what happens, t-bone accidents all the time. They do have crews that survey areas and determine what changes can be made to reduce accidents. I was involved in the collection of data for Rt. 5 and Bryantown Road, a few years ago, and it was decided a flashing warning light would/could help. Accidents were quickly reduced.

I was late because of this crap and received an official "warning" from admin. They are clueless - as is the rest of the metro area of anything that happens to impede southern maryland commuters... I tried to explain it was the equivalent of shutting down I66, 270 or I-95 - to no avail. :burning: Then after our meeting and her being clueless of a route 5 or it's importance, I try to find links to proove that yes, indeed there was a serious wreck and the road was closed and am coming up with NOTHING :burning: I sure wished more folks from So.Md worked here... :frown:

:blushing: Actually I'm ashamed of myself... accidents do happen and if it was me, I wouldn't want anyone wishing that on me... work should be more understanding that sometimes shiat like this happens... I was 30 min. late and it could not have been prevented or avoided by me. I've been busy this morning though -- I already have two other guaranteed shoe-in offers at other Firms that are there for my taking... luckily I've encountered alot of connections in this field in the past 16 years and they think highly of me... But, I need to pray on this beforemaking any rash decisions. This morning it was completely unjustified and unwarranted by admin. Now I'm worried that I've been given an official "warning" next is termination -- fock that. Who wants to live on the edge like that over something again that couldn't be prevented or avoided - hate to say it, but it makes me wish I was in the accident...then I'd have a legitimtae excuse and I would have documented proof, etc... Next time I'll just say... "Oh hell with it... y'all are going to make me late huh???" then I'll just gas it and plow into whoever I think is the guilty party :yay:

Its possible that the critically injured person may not be expected to live and for there investigation reconstruction had to be done, or subject may have been trapped and extended extrication was needed and the helicopter was on the ground. Just some thoughts to consider.

That happened to someone I knew when I was a kid. They were leaving the hospital, had the green light and got t-boned by a bus. Killed the passenger. The driver was in the hospital for a while, then had to have in-home care for a year or so after that. They said it was brake failure.
