Have you ever seen one go off before?
I saw the one go up, before the one that blew up. It is amazing how the world around that place stops, everyone standing on buildings and see history in the making.
Have fun!

Hey Jazz
I saw the shuttle land once at Edwards, we parked our van at the hold short. I would love to see a launch. What was really cool about a week latter when it left for the cape piggyback on the 747! (used every inch of the hard suface runway on takeoff).

I have seen 2 launches. 1 daytime and 1 night. Saw the shuttle on piggyback back in the 80's. I was riding in the backseat of my parent's '80 Olds Delta 88 deisel north on Rt. 301 between Rt. 4 and the tobacco barns (now the McD's). It made a little bit of an impression on me, can you tell?

I have made it to one as well. Almost two. The mission got aborted at the last minute and I had to come back to work. Really Cool.

He just retired after being at NASA for...probably somewhere around 30 years. Basically as long as I can remember. He'll be at the launch too.

Yeah that's big. :lmao:
I took Dad to the one shown. Dad met, sat and got all the autograph's of the Astronauts. They came to Greenbelt, and we all including Dad again went to an Orioles game. Got a pic of my son, dad with the Astronauts at Oriole Park. Really cool schtuff.
Did you guys see in another thread where I said I was a Junior Park ranger with the Georgia DNR? I had a badge but it was plastic  We did not have a space shuttle but we had an old Jeep. Rumor had it that it was Patton's personal Jeep in WWII :yay:The Ranger had a picture of Patton in the Jeep.
Come to think of it, that was a picture of George C. Scott not Patton  He lied to us. :burning:

NASA Fixes Shuttle Tiles; Launch on Track (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050713/ap_on_sc/space_shuttle_16;_ylt=Aoo2yvPrO77xcYR8Py7jYkkYAjMB;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl)
<!--summary-->CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - With the countdown for Discovery in its final hours, NASA was dealt an embarrassing setback Tuesday when a window cover fell off the shuttle and damaged thermal tiles near the tail. But the space agency quickly fixed the problem and said it was still on track for launch Wednesday. <!--/summary-->The mishap was an eerie reminder of the very thing that doomed Columbia 2 1/2 years ago — damage to the spaceship's fragile thermal shield.
*whew* That was TOO close. Hope the launch happens tomorrow as planned. :huggy:

Thank the space gods for Crazy Glue :yay:I'm sure it is specially made million dollar space age polymer Crazy Glue developed by many highly paid scientists. *cha-ching*
I don't know why, but I always think of that stupid commercial where the guy is hanging from his hard-hat when I hear "Crazy Glue." :lmao:

I'm leaving work at about 1:00 or so to drive down to Daytona to watch the launch from there. I would love to say that I'm going because I'm interested in the shuttle, but I'm just going as an excuse to eat at the Hooters of Daytona.

I know, but it would have been so cool for Airgasm to see it. :frown: He's not going to now, at least on this trip:
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - A faulty fuel-gauge reading forced NASA to call off Wednesday's launch of Discovery on the first shuttle flight since the Columbia disaster 2 1/2 years ago. The mission was put off until at least Saturday. <!--/summary-->The decision to scrub the launch came with less than 2 1/2 hours to go, while the seven astronauts were boarding the spacecraft for their journey to the international space station. Up until then, a thunderstorm over the launch site looked like the only potential obstacle.
Shuttle grounded until at least Saturday (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050713/ap_on_sc/space_shuttle_39;_ylt=Akobmr05RBq3ikUMtuS1lpkYAjMB;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl)
Hopefully it's just a temporary delay and they'll get that big beautiful bird in the air shortly. :yay:

Disapointed, but understanding.Priority one, get it right. Of course, lighting the fuse on this candle is quite a feat!
This area is a total circus with this launch. Just in the short time I've been here, it's amazing how many media types I've met, and the stories told.
A certain song comes to mind.
Gypsies, Tramps and thives...
 to Space hogs everywhere.
