Ok, I know nothing about Firefox. I went to the site and still don't know anything. What is it and why should I use it? I read something about somd.com using it and something about plugins but I am lost on what that even means! Help!

It's an alternative to Internet Explorer.....less vulnerabilities, faster some say.

I like it. :yay:

Only reason I used Firefox was for tabbed browsing. I just use Internet Explorer 7 BETA. I also like Maxthon and the older Netscape releases (before 8.0). Firefox was nice when it came out, but it's too mainstream now.

It has more advanced features than Internet Explorer. Allows you to put many tabs in the same window for easy management of multiple web pages. Not as susceptible to SpyWare invasion. It is part of the Open Software movement which means it was made by volunteer programmers at Mozilla.org and is free.

You liked it because it was 'cool' and obscure? More users make it less desirable, or am I missing something? Do you run Linux and listen to punk rock music also?

Opera anyone? It's free now and has always had tabbed windows, mouse gestures, and now voice recognition with the latest one. :-) Don't get me wrong, I love Firefox also. Can't decide like me, run both.

I've used Firefox since it came out. After some initial settings changes, it's worked fine. I still fall back on MSIE for secure sites that don't support Firefox, but other than that it's great, IMO. I'll load up 1.5 tonight and give it a spin. Thanks for the link.

Anyone else (who uses Firefox) have weird stuff going on ... like when you type an apostrophe in Hotmail, it opens a search window in the bottom on the window. Or when posting on the forum, and you type a few consecutive letters in caps, it backs up to the previous page automatically?

Ive been using Firefox for a long time now. I rarely open IE anymore.
You do have to keep IE around because there are some sites out there that will not open unless you are in IE.

I just like it because of the pop up control that it gives.

Caution
I did the upgrade just now to the new version of Firefox and at this point when I open this reply window I am unable to open the smilie tab to insert smilies.
If I figure out what setting is causing this I will let you know to change it.

Watch the upper left-hand corner when you go to open it. I did the same thing, and the menu of them was there (upper left hand corner).
