Anyone know anything about what's going on with this? I'm in serious need of upgrading to a blackberry or sidekick for calendaring, email, etc. access. I could get one through work, but I want it for personal use as well, so I'm looking to get something on my own. But I don't wanna shell out the bones for a blackberry only to have it be worthless in 2 months. :ohwell:

I'm really happy with my Palm Tungsten. It's not wireless, but it syncs up with my PC and works great with MS Outlook for e-mail and the calendar. It also works great for downloading and reviewing Word, Excel, and other kinds of files. It has all my contacts in it, too. Also, I have really cool billiards, solitaire, and mine sweeper games on it (downloaded separately). Anyway, I don't think I need or want wireless service; security is my first concern and cost is my second concern.

I can understand that. Unfortunately, mine is more an issue of "need" than "want". :ohwell: And I need for my wireless service to offer more than just fru-fru ring tones.

This thing between Blackberry/RIM and NTP is almost a done deal. The only thing left for the courts to decide is whether to exempt Gov agencies from the injunction against Blackberry.

You'd b wise to stay away from Blackberry until after they pay the impending penalties or work a deal with NTP (however unlikely that may be.)

A few co-workers have gone with the "Treo" as an alternative.

Treo has a lawsuit issue pending as well.

I ordered the blackberry last night; I'll take my chances. I can't see them shutting down a network like this. It'll get worked out; two countries have already favored BB, so I'm sure the US will as well. There's too much at risk to shut it down -- not just the government, but the financial markets as well, which largely depend on these devices for passing along those ever-important insider trading tips. :lmao:

Actually I managed to sync it up just fine. I've had the same hotmail addy for at least 9 yrs so I don't really have any desire to ditch it.

And I'll say this: every busy single mom oughta get 1 of these BBs! I,ve only used it for 2 days & already + wonder how I lived w/o it! I'm at a dr appt w/DQ right now & able to get work done while we wait vs. Sitting here reading a 6-month old magazine.

Settlement Reached in BlackBerry Dispute (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060303/ap_on_hi_te/blackberry_battle) :yay:

The settlement ends a period of anxiety for many of the more than 3 million BlackBerry users in the United States. Uncertainty over the outcome had some customers wondering whether they would experiences brief outages or even a shutdown. "I'm relieved," said Matt Lattman, a management consultant in Boston. "I've had it for about a year, and at this point, I can't imagine life without it."
Me either, Matt ... me either.

Holy cow have you seen some the sums of money being estimated for this stuff?

That's why I never dismiss what sound like kooky ideas. Who'd a thunk it 50 years ago that we'd have mobile/wireless devices that you could send letters and pictures on, and talk to people?
