Tice was one of the pioneer group in Calvert County to receive the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. According to Tice "It only makes sense to plan, educate, and implement an evacuation and disaster plan. Our kids know to stop, drop & roll. We should be encouraging everyone to be ready in the event they need it. This would go a long way to stop the panic that would add to any disaster. We live on a peninsula on a bay under the shadow of a nuclear power plant, liquid natural gas plant, and a naval air station during a war on terrorism. It's just smart to be prepared." A Democrat, no doubt.

"I was at a legislative night when the representatives from 'Dogs Deserve Better' made a presentation." Tice goes on to say "Barking Dogs are a major concern in my neighborhood, and after seeing their presentation it makes sense that these animals could be barking for attention. Calvert County needs to re-write the Animal Control Ordinances, to protect animals from humans, humans from animals, and humans from humans! I would love to see that happen. If I am elected I will also take every opportunity to see to it that the laws we have are enforced, and newer stronger laws are written."
What?!?

I'm registered Republican.... Not a democrat

Since I'm the candidate I can explain the animal control paragraph...

The legislative night I was talking about took place at Calvert Pines Senior Center... The group from "Dogs Deserve Better" were there. The owner of that horse that got attached by a pack of dogs was also there.

We should have laws that protect animals from humans. We shouldn't be chaining dogs 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. We also shouldn't be sticking dogs in a cage 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year... or starving them to death... or beating them...

We should have laws that protect humans from animals... that horse was killed by the dogs... it was so sad... If animal control would have enforced the laws on the books it could have probably been prevented.... but... there have been plenty of children and adults mauled by dogs....

We should have laws that protect humans from humans... lets face it... as soon as we pass barking dog regulations, somebody with a grudge against their neighbor [who happens to own a dog], is going to complain about the barking. On the other hand there are plenty of dog owners who must be deaf and don't hear their dogs barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking... well you should get the picture by now...

Any other questions? :coffee:

You do realize that your county already has an Animal Control Ordinance that covers barking dogs (or nuisance animals). http://www.co.cal.md.us/residents/safety/law/sheriff/animalcontrolordinance.asp

And under Title 10 of the Criminal Code of the State the rest of your concerns are covered.

I think you'll see female candidates for St. Mary's, in the upcoming election cycle. Hopefully, they're not like this Calvert whacko. Southern Maryland's challenges are far greater than a dog attacking a horse, and bad pet owners.

Nope, not looking good at all. There are far more important issues facing the county, particularly Southern Calvert, then barking dogs. I would venture to say that the vast majority of the formites here are pretty well plugged in and actually get up and vote.

Apparently the intelligence on this board is above yours. Most everyone on here realizes you don't stand much of a chance running on a dog platform.

I am and it's the ridiculous platforms that some candidates choose to make their primary concern that usually turns me against them.

Dogs barking and dogs being mistreated is a big concern to ME. But there are already laws on the books for noise nuisance, leash laws, and abuse/mistreatment/cruelty to animals. You remind of the politiacal want-to-be's that think stiffer gun control laws will reduce violent crime.

You are obviously a democrat [advertised or not], since you think the government needs more laws and involvement to fix something that really isn't broken.

Did I get the matter straightened out that I put up the new Commissioner Candidate up using the Comcast Webpage before I got the Web Site going and announced my candidacy....

Web Sites are a whole lot more expensive than Web Pages...

www.beckytice.com Still has some adjustments to be made....

Actually, I think that it's pretty smart.

If you can't take care of a dog - for whatever reason - it's an extremly delightful idea to not get one. I wish more dog owners considered this. Particularly a certain anonymous tool I know of, whose mutt runs around a certain anonymous neighborhood spreading trash.

If more people thought this much about their pets - and their children - there would be a whole lot less abuse, neglect and welfare in the world.

Becky, you can learn a lot about how people will take you from this board. Please don't take the feedback personally, but learn from it. Your timing was bad because you appeared at about the same time as JPC. He irritated so many people that it was easy to jump on you.

You may want to try a fresh start. Don't create a new identity, but start a new thread introducing yourself, what you are running for, and what your platform is. We do not like vague generalities. Your platform should be "If elected, I will..."

Nobody wants to hear what's wrong without hearing your solution. For example, if you are addressing overcrowded school buses, you should give us facts that the buses are overcrowded, and tell us how you would fix the issue.

One of JPC's problems is that he is addressing issues that a delegate has no control over. If you stick to issues that you actually can fix, you will do much better.

After reading your opinions, I believe you intend to do well. I understand you used this board as a trial sounding board, but you have the oppurtunity to gain a constituency if you start fresh, and you are honest with us.

Good luck!
