Why would you move to an area that you know nothing about and haven't researched?

Wow!!! So many responses : )
Moving to Southern Maryland due to husband's job transfer. Also, my daughter lives in Maryland. I was just really wondering what area's were decent to live in. We looked at a couple of houses in the Lexington Park area. Some of the houses looked ok, but we weren't sure about crime in the area. Did do research on Epodunk for crime rate, but the data doesn't always tell the true story. Thanks for all the responses. Seems like a bunch of nice folk in Southern Maryland : )

My personal opinion is to stay away from the Lex Park, Great Mills area and try to do something in Hollywood or California, if you can afford the area. We don't have any public beaches unless you have access to the beach on Base.
