I am kinda interested as to where this could be going.. what do you guys/gals think? I personally can tell you that if we went to war over there, it would make Iraq look like a walk in the park..

And what would you know about it?
NK is just looking for attention so that they can try to get a hand-out.

My car isn't the only thing that I find interesting, thank you :) .. as an Army Combat Veteran.. I find that this situation is only going to get worse before it gets better. We did training in Gracie Ju-Jitsu prior to my ETS, and it was seen as a neccesary training since N. Korea could be one of the other countries that the US is going to work on in the future. This incident could be the flame to the fuse.

I think that if China wasn't sitting there like an over-indulgent uncle, Kim Jong Il would have gotten a haircut already, and would be shutting the ever-loving eff up.

Sure would. But not because of NK, their "nuclear might" or any of the other desperate pleas for attention they've doled out over the past however-many years.
If push came to shove, and shove came to blows, and blows led to war, North Korea would be about as important as a fart in a blizzard.

Perhaps we can infiltrate them with a fleet of tC's modified with rocket launchers. Next thing you know :kablam:

I misunderstood, I thought you meant North Korea would be easy. Going to North Korea would be anything but easy and it wont happen. If public sentiment turns sour on 2500 casualties over 3 years in Iraq 2500 a day in Korea is a non starter. We will just go back to starving them out and hoping Kim Jong Ill slips on his soap and dies in a tub accident.

Thats ok.. :)
I didn't realize they had another thread on this topic.. I've been steadily watching for information on this though, I had a feeling that this was going to happen sooner than later.. hopefully Bush's diplomancy can prevail.. not like the diplomancy he showed for the Iraq conflict

his diplomacy is perfect. Ignore them. Let them rattle all they want, in the meantime let them starve until they collapse or revolt.

Well that depends. If a Democrat is elected in 2008, and decides to go to war with NK, the media will ensure that we all agree that it is a just and fair war, no atrocities will be commited (or at least covered), and any number of casualties will be the eggs broken to make a peace-omelet.
That's if they bother covering it at all.
("Operation desert-fox? Whats that?")

IMO, allowing to fester is never a good idea, only becomes a bigger pain later on.
Bush's speech of "you're either with us or against us" fuse has fizzled out.

What I find funny about the whole NK "crisis" is all the chicken littles runnung about even mentioning "war" and North Korea" in the same breath. This is such a non-crisis, that's been turned into such a phony life-or-death situation by self-serving types, it's amazing that anyone but the most ignorant fall for it. Yet there are more and more people starting to worry about a war breaking out simply on all the escallating hysteria in the media.
One wonders when were going to start seeing the movie "The Mouse That Roared" showing up all over cable TV.
Now they are saying it was aimed at Hawaii  Aim an empty missile at Hawaii?

I'm starting to think you're suffering from a hunger strike that started a couple days ago.
This missile being aimed at Hawaii doesn't raise your arm hairs just a little?

First it is not confirmed it was aimed at Hawaii it is merely being reported by a Japanese newspaper. Next, this missile has only been launched twice, once in 1998 and the other day. Both crashed within seconds of launch. Lastly, this is the same old tactic Kim has used for years. He is a petty insignificant thug, all he is doing is basking in his new celebrity and angling at getting everyone scared to death so they will bow to extortion in the form of massive foreign aid.
I think the Chinese might just have a role to play here in stopping Kim from getting out of hand.

This missile being aimed at Hawaii doesn't raise your arm hairs just a little? If I found out that my neighbor a mile away had a slingshot pointed at my house, would I be afraid?
If he had a favorable wind, a really good slingshot, was able to cut down the trees in the way, and shot a million rocks, he might break my window.
Same thing for NK. They don't have the tech or the money to be a real threat. Could they get lucky? Yes. Is it likely? About as likely as everyone you have ever met winning the lottery on the same day.
If NK cared about having a missle program would they do it the way they did? They shot off as many missiles as they could, for effect. If you are actually "testing", you perform a test, analyze the data, make corrections, and repeat. If you are trying to scare people, you fire of multiple "tests" as fast as you can.
I just wonder if one of our directed energy weapons had anything to do with this?

Explosion in northern China kills 43 (http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/news/14982168.htm)
Shanxi is a major coal-producing area, and frequently suffers fatal accidents blamed on improperly stored explosives for mining.
^that is new information from the earlier reports along with the death count increasing.

Yes I kill a snake that rears it's ugly head. When my neighbor's stupid little yip dogs snap at me, I do not yield to my desire to punt them.
Iraq was a snake.
NK is a yip dog.
Why should we waste our effort on a country who just PROVED that they are not capable of anything?

I got your back on this Homesick..
Kim Jong Il is crazy like a fox! The Taepodong-2 missile, believed capable of reaching U.S. shores, went into the drink seconds after takeoff, but it's hard to derive any comfort from this failure. Unless North Korea ceases its aggressive tactics and gives up its nuclear ambitions, Kim Jong Il's rocket scientists will just keep trying. One day, they're likely to succeed.

This one I find hard to believe. Does anyone think that they were not testing a missile but were actively attacking the United States and simply failed to complete it?
On another note - China and Russia's inertia on this issue is p!ssing me off. I have to think that China is mildly complicit in all this NK stuff. It serves them to have little NK be bellicose, because they get to threaten the United States without paying a single political cost from it all. Kind of like having your toddler throw rocks at a neighbor you don't like. Worse, if we ever got INTO war with NK and it looked like we were going to crush them - China would get into it and pour over the border like an army of red ants.
