I"m about a mile from the cutoff for Metrocast "High Speed" Internet, so I've looked into the verizon broadband cards....anybody have any experience with them? good or bad?

Also, if there are 2 laptops in the home, and we would like to have both on the broadband acces, I know we would need 2 cards, but can we run broadband off of one monthly plan (maybe for an extra amount per month, like having an extra phone on a plan) or would we have to pay the extra $60 a month and have seperate plans for each?

We have one and it works well, but that is all I know about that....

Well, technically, you are not supposed to. However, it can be easily done with just one Verizon Broadband Card if both PC's have EntherNet cards. All you have to do is run a EtherNet cable from the PC with the card to the one without the card. Now, depending on which firewall you are using, you will have to make some changes, etc. If you are interested, let me know and I'll outline what you have to do to share one connection.

before you get the card make sure you have a good Verizon cell connection at your house. Tina and I have the card which I use for work and such and it works great. Sharing the card I dont think the speed would be much better then a 56k modem though. I can tell you my card works great on base screw NMCI :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I have one. Usually the reception on the card is one bar less than my Verizon cell phone. EVDO has a router that you plug the card in to and then you can go wireless in the house.
My card works ok. Works great with better reception. At my house I have no bars of reception, sometimes I get 1 or 2, It's a little slow at times here.

If you have a fairly new card - you should see EVDO on your screen display. If you have a few bars - you should be good to go. If you have one bar - you can get an external antenna for the card. Remember, Verizon will let you "test drive" the card for 15 days before you buy it.

I use the modem in my cell phone with a special USB cable and it works purdy darn good

No, you still have to pay a monthly fee for the service. VZW does offer free airtime cards, but I am not sure if they are EVDO cards.

$250? All the Verizon Broadband Card gives you is access to the InterNet. You can drop your current ISP (i.e., Earthlink, AOL, etc.) if you aren't concerned about using a free E-Mail service (i.e., Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.). However, Verizon's Broadband coverage is limited in some areas. So, if you travel a lot - and need InterNet access - you might want to keep your ISP for a while (until Verizon expands some more). Cingular has good HSDPA/UMTS coverage and we're getting around 650Kbs download and around 200kbs upload.

Depending on where you live you may not have coverage. The only coverage in Maryland is Baltimore!

Sorry, I really have never tried tethering my cellphone to my laptop - have no idea. However, I'm getting 1-2 bars on my cellphone as well. I bought an external antenna for my card and it bumped my reception up to 3 to 4 bars.

I was running about 30%. I bought the Booster Antenna for my Novatel v620 with cable ($59.99) and it boosted my signal to 87% (which increased my speed significantly). Say, are you using the ExpressCard or normal PCMCIA card?
