Configuring this with a cable modem and a 20 port hub.

I need software. Any ideas anyone?

you don't need any software to hook those 2 together. All you need is to run your cable modem's ethernet cable to the internet or WAN port on the WRT54G and then a cable from one of the four other ports on the WRT54G to the 20 port hub. Make sure if you are using the wireless part of your switch, to secure it using a WEP or WPA.

If you're talking about configuring the router connect the network cable, bring up your browser and point it at 192.168.1.1

If this is a fresh install (i.e. the router is new and has never been configured before) leave the user name blank and enter "admin" as the password.

If you picked it up used, you'll have to get the username/password from the original owner.

I need the software to configure the wireless router. I tried 192.168.0.1 and I cannot connect because I think I need the software for the wireless router.

I have the same router....and you need to first hook it up the router to the computer via internet cord....then follow the instructions that Lugnut said :yay:

Doing some side work for a business.
I picked it up used. Has a username and password already and can't get any info to find it. I was told to hold the reset for a few minutes and it should reset. :shrug:
My server is running DHCP, so I think I'm just going to say fk it and do 2 nic cards. Plug the hub in one and the cable modem in the other. :yay:

Just checked teh user manual online and it says hold teh reset button for 5 seconds to return the router to default settings.

Should be good to go from there.

Oh yeah, you listed the IP you tried as 192.168.0.1 above. The manual calls for 192.168.1.1. Don't know if it was a typo or not but thought I'd point it out just in case. :smile:

My laptop has the Dell Wireless Utility and it picked up the Linksys Router connected to my laptop via Network cable. When I did this with the Utility it showed a login name. And when I tried to view it's settings it asked for a password. It does not do that now since reset. I can see it now and name it if necassary.

If I try via a webpage, it will not see that IP. Is it possible it's not a .1.1?

I'm assuming you've done similar jobs before. I.e. you've already ping'd teh IP addy, and gone through teh usual TCP/IP troubleshooting stuff?

I'd suggest at this point taking Onebad's advice and calling Linksys tech support.

You're going to need to use a wired connection to set up the router.

Connect a CAT5 cable between the NIC on your PC and the Router(make sure the CAT5 is straight through and not crossover). It's best to connect directly between the NIC and router. ie., don't connect from the NIC to a hub/switch then to the router. Also make sure it is connected to either one of the 4 LAN ports, not the port for the broadband connection.
Set the NIC to DHCP.
Disable then enable the NIC (or reboot).
Enter http://192.168.1.1 into your web browser.
Leave User Name blank.
Enter admin for the password.

If that fails ping 192.168.1.1
If you get a 100% packet loss, configure your NIC to use a static IP.
Use 192.168.1.2 for the IP.
Use 255.255.255.0 for the net mask.
Use 192.168.1.1 for the gateway address.
Since we're just configuring the router there is no need for a DNS.
Disable/enable the NIC(or reboot).
Enter 192.168.1.1 in your browser. etc.

If that fails ping 192.168.1.1
If you get 100% packet loss you may have a bad NIC or bad cable.
Use a diferent cable.
If that fails use a diferent NIC.
If that fails you are SOL.
