Where people get off charging $95.00 for mix breed puppies?!?!?!?! My husband said maybe they are "premium blend" puppies. :bigwhoop:

Supply and demand... if she gets buyers... she makes out... if no one bites... she drops the price. It also prevents calls from people who can't afford to invest in owning a dog.

They're not mixed breeds, they are 'hybrids' duh!!
You use the wrong term and it sounds like you are getting ripped off, you use the right term and it sounds like you are getting the deal of the decade.

Yeah, well I don't care how you slice it they are MUTTS. Nothing wrong with mutts, in fact some of my best dogs were mutts. I just can't believe some people out there trying to make a buck on what most people give away!! It's rediculous! NO way am I going to pay that kind of money for a mixed breed dog!

... and some people pay much more than that for a "purebred" and end up with a dog that has extensive and expensive medical conditions because of breed traits...

How much do you think you pay when you RESCUE a dog?
Not saying that this particular person is or isn't doing the right thing. Let's assume they are, and they've taken the litter to the vet, they've paid for puppy food, etc...and the litter was an accident ..assuming all the right things..they're not making much money by selling the pups for $95. And by putting a price tag on a puppy (which is what most rescues will advise you to do if you ask for their advice) will weed out people who maybe cannot afford the costs associated with a pet in the first place. The fee also discourages people taking a puppy for say, dog fight baiting, lab experiments, and various other undesirable activities.

Woody (Labradoodle) was priced @ 1200.00. I only paid $300.00 for him as he was not sold by 8 weeks. I consider myself very lucky to have him. I wouldn't take any less than a million for him now.

Well, if these puppies don't get bought for $95 each, chances are you will be able to adopt them from a local rescue for $150 (once the advertising person realizes that no one wants to pay almost $100 for a mutt), which will Include:
Shots
Spay or Neuter
Possibly a good start on house and/or crate training.
Now if this person would take part of their $95 per puppy and spay the mother, then that's a good thing (but I won't bet the rent money on that).

Well if they are paying $95.00 for first shots then they need to find a less expensive vet.
And I have had both purebred and mixed breed dogs and have never had any problems with medical. In fact, I have two purebreds right now and a mixed breed and only paid for one of them. The other two I got free from owners that wanted them to have a better life. I have a standard poodle, a min pin, and an Akita, Shiba Inu mix. As beautiful as my mix is there is no way I would have paid money for him. :howdy:

It cost $100 for me to adopt my cat. I would have paid triple because I fell in love with him the instant I saw him. It shouldn't be about money (and to me it wasn't). I chose to give him a good, happy, spoiled life!

I have 3 such spoiled cats and didn't pay a dime for them until I took them for their shots. I love each and everyone of my animals and the only one I have paid big money for is my min pin. I agree its not about the money. But there are plenty of free animals out there that need homes too, and a lot of people think they are getting something better if they have to pay for it. I just find it shocking that people can charge so much money for a dog that you can otherwise find for free. I didn't mean to step on toes or anything. I was just curious about the thinking behind that rediculous price.

SO if the shots cost say $45, plus the cost of food, shelter etc.. it's not ok to make say $10 profit off of the sale of their dogs? I guess you feel they should take a loss on the sale of these puppies just because they are mutts? I'm guessing you don't own a business?

Why are you :jameo: all of the sudden? I see nothing wrong with you starting this thread. You started the thread and stated your opinion then asked 'why'.... several of us responded with our opinion and gave an answer as to 'why'. You kept posting the same thing over and over and over again as if to try to convince us our opinion was wrong. You are the one who seems to be looking for an argument.

Some don't "give away" mixed breed puppies/animals because they have heard of sick people who take them only to do them harm. I think the thought behind it is if someone has paid for the animal that would be less likely.

To clear up the issue here. I called the number and this is the story that I got. The mother of the puppies is getting spayed with the proceeds of the litter and the litter was unplanned. They are keeping a stray dog and trying to make a better situation and be responsible when the neighbors were not.
I'm not sharing my opinion, but wanted to let you know what I was told when I called.
And as far as vet pricing, I breed show chihuahuas. My vet in Florida was cheaper than the vets here. My vet here is $40 for an office visit and then shots, etc. I do a lot of shots myself, but you have to figure that a puppy shot is $15-20 per puppy and worming/fecal is at least $20 at the vet. If she's truly paying for the spaying of someone else's dog, she's not making any money at all.
My information for what it's worth.

The bet bill is one part - the food bill goes crazy, not to mention all the newspapers that have to be changed, toys bought, time taken, good stuff ruined, having pups is not easy - ask wharf rat or Katie who haven taken in stray mommas. And yes, asking for money for a pup will dissuade someone who may not have the best motives for looking for a pup. When I bred my purebreds, and got more than $95 per puppy, it didn't "pay" all that was put into the puppies. JMO
