He isn't around anymore. But go ahead and ask your question as many here know a lot about a lot.

Just a guess, but hopefully it ends up in the hamper.

Ok here goes! I was wondering how Burnt store road in Hughesville got it's name. Anyone know? Also Oliver Shop road. They used to just be Rt 231 & Rt 232!

I'll betcha they were Oliver Shop and Burnt Store BEFORE they were designated as state road routes.

Yeah but I wonder what the history is behind the names. I travel them all the time and it would be interesting to know the orgin. I am guessing there was a store somewhere along the road(would be interesting to know location) that burnt. Since Ask Henry retired any locals know the answer?

OK, I know before there was a dual lane going through Bryantown, there was an old store....As you are travling north just as you go through the Bryantown light on the right there was a store and a tractor dealer....I think they sold Allis Chalmer tractors....The njorth bound lane probably goes right through the old building....I know they had combines and farm machinery there too...I don't think they had Olivers though...About the only Oliver dealers were Guy Bros in Clements and AG Hungerford over on the road going to Cobb Island...So I don't know where the Oliver Shop Rd came from...
BTW, I was VERY young then....
