View Full Version : Damage to luggage when flying

Has anyone ever dealt with an airline regarding damaged luggage? The general 800 # for American Airlines has been called and hubby has been told "too bad."
Story: They lost his luggage, along with all the guys he traveled with. When they found and delivered his belongings, one of his drivers was broken completely in half. The bag has a visible footprint exactly where the driver was in the golf bag. And, because it was in a soft bag - not a hard bag - AA will not cover the damage. :ohwell:

...I hope they find those guys and soon. Do they have families? This is horrible...

That's what their website says:
Liability Limitations (http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?p=/travelInformation/baggage/liabilityLimitations.jsp&anchorEvent=false)
It's a pretty standard airline policy.

Once when flying with a brand new suitcase on rollers, it came off the rounder demolished. I immediately took it to the office and they replaced it right there. I had to unload and repack right there in the office in front of the in-laws. I was impressed, until I realized the bag they replaced it with weighed a ton! I won't let that happen again!

Damn, did they have to step on it? :ohwell:

You work for American Airlines or just like being an a**wipe.
I wonder how long it took you to google that?

It is a standard airline policy that they will not cover golf clubs if they are not stored in a hard sided case.

I had jewelry stolen from a bag. I had to have my homeowners kick the $ in. Not a good idea.

I fly at least twice a month and sometimes up to 3 times a month at a time for work.
Our last trip, we got home from New Mexico and one of the guys had his tool bag gone through and missing some tools. We were already home, we didn't bother trying to do a claim
Sorry to say if you didn't do anything about it then, you guys are pretty much SOL!

When is "then?" The airline lost hubby's luggage. He arrived home Sunday morning. His luggage didn't arrive at our house until 2am Monday - delivery driver. He opened his golf bag at first chance and made a few phone calls before anyone would get back with him.
I understand airline policy. I realize there's nothing we could do. Well, except for call 7 on My Side. :roflmao:

He should keep pursuing this and maybe at least get them (AA) to reimburse him for a new shaft and grip. If I were in this position I'd maybe just shrug it off and say ,"well it wasn't in a hard case", but since there was a footprint on the bag, that's a different story.
The big question is, how is he handling this emotionally?:lmao: Has the shock worn off yet, because I know the scars may remain for years to come.
I was just thinking about how the airline was able to exert that much stress on a driver shaft, while in the bag, and still snap it.

He'll probably just take it somewhere to get fixed, but he's leaving again in 2 weeks so the repair needs to be quick. He wants to take his clubs with him. I feel bad. I mean, who looks at a golf bag and decides it would be a good idea to step on it? :ohwell:

Well, you know what to get him for his bday, anniversary, Christmas, T-giving or when you want a new Koach or Doomy and Bork bag.:lmao:
He can try Mike's Golf, I think they still have their shop in Wildewood and I know they have one in Waldorf behind Best Buy in the new shopping center there.

No, I mean a hard travel case.:lmao: My FIL had his driver lifted out of a hard case on his way back from Hawaii a few years back. We had just gotten him that thing the previous Christmas $350-$400 gone. BUT the airline did replace it for him.

AA was the airline that tried to strand me first in Chicago, then at Reagan. For my trouble and the added expense of a hotel and transportation to BWI, they offered me a $100 flight voucher after I sent them a nastygram.
Naturally, I think they suck ass, and it's doubtful Day will be reimbursed.

Mike's is gone!!!!! I know this because when Wife went to Belks the other day I made my break for it and was greeted with a for lease sign and paper on the windows....guess he wasn't making enough to keep both stores open....it's a shame....I think a trip to Golfdom is in order....
On another note that really sucks about the driver....gotta get a hard case!

No, Tommy, I gave her the link so she would know exactly what the airline policy is. It helps to know the policy when you are trying to deal with the airline. There might be something in the policy that they can use to convince the airline to do something for them.
I never called him a loser. He isn't a fugitive, so he probably isn't a loser like you are Tommy Boy.
