I'm looking to get a new system. Which one do you all think is better? A PS3 or a XBox360. I have a PS2 now and I think that you can play those games on the PS3. But which one has the better graphics? And which one is a better buy in your opinon? TIA

Get a Wii. Any good game that you can play on either of those two systems you can play more effectively on a PC.

The PS3 has better graphics....but the 360 has more "better" games

PS 3 comes with a Blu Ray DVD player. For the same price of a stand alone BluRay player you get a game system too.

Graphics are about even right now. Certain websites have compared the two and a lot of the times the 360 comes out on top, slightly. The 360 has a strong on-line community (which you pay for) but the PS3 will probably catch up.

I don't think the latest generation of PS3 machines play the PS2 (not entirely sure). I think they're just geared towards pushing the latest technology (including Blu-Ray).

I have a 360 and a Wii but I want to get a PS3 when the new Metal Gear Solid game arrives.

you can not play PS2 games on PS3 (they removed that), but you can play PS1 games.

honestly, I'd get a Wii and/or an Xbox 360

Xbox has way more games then the PS3 and most games that come to PS3 also go to Xbox 360.

Also, they are making a BR add on for the 360 that will be out eventually.

Microsoft killed of their HD-DVD add-on as soon as Blu-Ray was announced the winner. The Wii never got into that format battle, it just plays the Wii and Gamecube games.

I think it's fun to break it out now and again. Mario Kart is fun and I want to get the Wii Fit. It offers basic yoga moves and such. One of our trainers told me I'm the best example of what poor flexibility is all about :ohwell: so I'm willing to give this a shot, looks like it'll be entertaining too. :yay:

I can play my PS2 games on the PS3.

did you buy an early one? .... I know they removed the capability after a while.

edit: apologies!

The 80 gig can still play PS2 games (the 20, 40, and 60 gig ones can not) (unless you got them early).

"In addition to all of the features of the 20 GB model, the 60 GB model has internal IEEE 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, multiple flash card readers (SD/MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash Type I/Type II, Microdrive,[54] Memory Stick/PRO/Duo), and a chrome coloured trim.[44] In terms of hardware, the 80 GB model released in South Korea is identical to the 60 GB model released in the PAL regions, except for the difference in hard drive size.[55] Like the South Korean and European models, the North American 80 GB model also excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip.[56] However, it still keeps the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU.[57] Due to emulation of the "Emotion Engine", the level of compatibility was reduced[56] (see PlayStation 3 games - Removal of hardware support for more details). The 40 GB model has two USB ports instead of the four USB ports on other models, and does not include a multi memory card port, SACD support, or any backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 titles.[56][17] This was due to the removal of "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU, which stripped the unit of all PlayStation 2 based hardware.[45]"

reads ugly, but the info seems to be there.

PS2 to PS3 compatability:

PlayStation.com (http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus)

type in the game name to see if it will run on your PS3

(why sony decided to make this so hard on buyers is beyond me)

(nintendo and microsoft made it easy in that ALL games from the previous system are playable)

Ok seriously. I have a PS3 and I have never played a 360. Even though the PS3 has a Blu-Ray player, the Xbox 360 will eventually get one as an add-on as well. No big deal.

The real issue is the games. It's really about the exclusive titles for each system. No I don't think any system is better than the other. It's obvious that each system has their pro's and cons, but I believe it comes down what games you like. If you could care less about the exclusive games such as Halo or Metal Gear, get either system. You can't go wrong.

For the most part, the Wii is about party games. Its fun when you have a group of people over, but it sucks for most games. I tried to play a few regular games on my brothers and they just sucked bad. No real fine control of anything and too tiring for games that take hours.

As for the ps3 and xbox 360. I have both and there is little difference in the video that I can see. I prefer the 360 simply because I like the controler much more. I like the layout of the thumb sticks better and being able to use regular batteries works much better for me.

The fact that the ps3 controllers batteries are built in really sucks. And they only give you a short cord for recharging which makes it very hard to keep playing once your batteries go dead. I got an adapter a few months ago to allow me to recharge the controlers while the game unit is off, but I use it so rarely that I never even took it out of the package. Every game of significance on the ps3 has been on the 360 as well, so I just get the 360 version. So, for the most part the ps3 has been a waste of money for me. I have used it to watch a few blue ray movies, but their price needs to come down to regular dvd level before I will buy many more.

Hmm, depends what you're looking to get out of it, I think. If you want an entertainment system more than a gaming console, go with the PS3, Blu-Ray is the way of the future now and the graphics really are awesome. However, I think there are way more XBox exclusive arguments for the 360 the PS3; more of your critically acclaimed games are going to be 360 games or cross-platform anyway. Heck, even the Final Fantasies you can get for DS. I'd go with the 360, but that's what I'm used to. I'm also not a huge fan of Sixaxis motion control, but again, to each their own.

Can anyone list some of the popular games which are system exclusive?

Some of my 360 favorites are Oblivion, Bioshock (I think they're releasing it for PS3 maybe next year, but at the moment it's just 360), Mass Effect, the Halo Series, KotOR (just for laughs). PS3 exclusives from the past year or so would be Lair, Heavenly Sword, of course Metal Gear Solid 4 (also rumored to be released on 360?)...can someone help me out, I'm not as familiar with PS3.

And then there's Assassin's Creed, which is on both consoles but I prefer the 360's motion control system over the PS3's to play AC because it has a complicated system anyway (if you've played the game) and I don't really like Sixaxis for it. But that's just my preference.

I'm sure Madden will be on both, I don't really play sports games though so I'm not sure.

I dont see why people look at graphics first when comparing systems.

We've got to the point in modern gaming that no matter what system you buy, the graphics are going to be really, really, good.

I have an Xbox 360 and I like it a lot, theres a ton of good games for it, too. Although, I am pretty jealous of PS3 owners for being able to play MGS4 :cussing:

The only problem I have with my 360 is that I get halfway through the single player of a new game, then start playing COD4 online and cant stop again :ohwell:
