Another crane collapse in NYC.

Large crane collapses in New York City (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24889166/)

A giant construction crane has collapsed on New York City's Upper East Side; AP reports that at least 1 person has been killed.

They said the operator went down with the crane, I'd be very suprised if he lives through that. Looks to be yet another Tower Crane that fell, had to be out of the blue, with no apparent reason because the operator wouldn't be in the cab if they were dismantling it usually. A sad, sad thing. Hope no one else was injured.

Is "Tower Crane" the brand of cranes that keep collapsing?

It just seems like this happens every week, somewhere. I know it's a risky job, but aren't there certain safety inspections these things have to pass?

Congress should be investigation Tower Cranes' CEOs, not Shell's CEOs.

This is just a bit ridiculous when construction cranes are doing more damages to streets and towns than a tornado.

Tower Crane is the type of crane it is, not the brand. They are the ones that you see lining the skies of Washington DC. There are inspections that you have to do everyday. New York is a very strong Union state, and mostly all of your union companies require the operator to have a CCO certification, which is a very rigourous course, and examination. But it seems to me that this may very well be a crane defect, and not an operator defect. It's still hard to tell, until they do a complete investigation.
