Ok lets see.....

Shenadoah Valley, Virginia in a cabin with a heart shaped jacuzzi tub and a roaring fireplace............most romantic

Atlanta, Georgia and Philadelphia, PA.........never return to

Mobile, Dauphin Island and Bayou La Batre, Alabama............most interesting places. Lots of southern flavor, history, great food and Bayou La Batre was the place that Bubba was from in the movie Forrest Gump (yes the place really exists!)

And of course the Outer Banks, NC!

Romantic: Here with my wife. Thought watching the sunset off of the back of the Eastern bound cruise ship was pretty damn cool. (she was there too)

Never go back: Gibraltar.

Most Interesting: Dachau, Germany. Went there when I was in the 4th or 5th grade, and it was so stirring and emotional I can remember it like it was yesterday.. The pictures, the quiet, the GREEEEEN grass.. the mass grave.. the ovens..

Where is the most romantic place you have been?

Santorini Greece (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&safe=off&resnum=0&q=Santorini%20greece&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi) I spent two blissful weeks there putting around on a vespa, partying, and enjoying the beaches and food.

Where have you been that you would never return to?
A few stinking Middle Eastern countries I would personally nuke before ever returning to. The freakin' filthy oily misogynistic dune coons...

Where is the most interesting place you have been?
I spent a month bombing around Australia in a camper van, it was beautiful and I loved everything about it. I also spent a month in Israel, there were endless things to see and the diving on the red sea was great. Australia had endless natural amazements but Israel had such great history to explore... it's a tie.

A hotel? If it's the same one I'm thinking of it is three rooms. Best part is no noisy neighbors unless you can hear the boats taking off in the morning.

...most romantic; pretty much any Irish pub I've ever been in with Vrail. Three or four pints and we're in love all over again. :lmao:

Never go back? Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Arm pit of the universe. Plus, no Irish pubs... :lmao:

Interesting: Manhattan, The Keys, Southern Arizona, Why, Gilla Bend, Organ Pipe Cactus (utopian moment) Ajo, some campground in the middle of nowhere, AZ, some petroglyphs. Absolute silence.

Romantic, Puerto Vallarta, MX

Never go back, Can't really think of any places I have intentionally visited except maybe the natural bridge in VA. Kind of disappointing. I don't regret going, but I wouldn't return.

Interesting, Grand Canyon. Right about the time you descend from the layer that has fossils in it to the basalt layer. Weird feeling, like you were going back in time.

...many places have you been where the roadside fences are built with plastic garbage bags, huh? THAT is functional art at it's finest!

What was cool was the locals selling food in the parking lot. Great food. What was it? Flat bread something or other...the salsa, just good stuff. Nice people.

Most romantic place I would have to say a Plantation House we rented next to the ocean near Soufriers, St. Lucia.

A place I would never return to? Haiti, although I had a good time there, it was still the armpit of the world.

The most interesting place, jeesh, there are alot of them, but I would have to say that the Galapagos Islands, especially Wolf and Darwin Islands edge out the other places.

That is an interesting place. I had the chance to go through Auschwitz-Birkenau near Krakow several years ago as well. Not only extremely depressing, but very sobering. Only need to visit a place like either or these once in a lifetime.

More places than I can list here...but a few: Anywhere in the middle east in the summer, Iraq anytime of year, Eastern Europe...and France...bastages!

Israel, Jersualum for the obvious religious and historical reasons, Masada for the same...it's amazing to look down at the walls that were built by the Roman Army...and Tel Aviv.....for all of the holyness and history that the rest of the country has to offer....I can't quite remember a much more crazy night in my life....that city is awesome.

Israel is a very interesting place as well. :yay: I had a tour through Jerusalem with a few colleagues, which was excellent. We're starting to save up for a trip to Australia (maybe in a couple of years), also. Neither of us have ever been there, and I found out a few years back I have family there in Brisbon. Two week minimum vacation, I'd say.

Did your family visit? Was it a field trip? WHy were you there? Thats an interesting place for a kid to go, huge impact.

Dad was stationed in Germany at the time.. I believe it was 1973. We vactioned in Garmisch, went to see all the Castles in that area, all of Crazy King Ludwig's haunts.. and on the way home we were going to go through Munich, and on the way (I don't really know why) parents decided to stop off in Dachau. We lived in Germany during the '72 Olympics, and remember being pissed because we didn't plan on going to anything.. Dad hates crowds.

Funny.. I'm not 100% sure if it was with my parents. I remember the vacation, I remember driving through Munich and the Olympic Stadium.. and I remember walking through the gate of Dachau but I don't recall my parents or siblings being there. I can 'see' everything just like I'm standing there, but I don't remember anyone else being there, just me. the sounds, or lack of sounds.. the crunch of the gravel underfoot.

I can almost feel the texture of the walls of the ovens and the exectuion wall where they shot prisoners (Dachau's most favored method of killing).. the smell of the inside of the 'dormitory' that was left standing, but it's if I was all alone in the place. Yet I KNOW my brother, my sister and my parents HAD to be there.

Yeah, I think most would think 4th grade would be too young, and I don't know of ANY schools that did field trips to there or any other 'camps', but in my opinion, having been there, it was a sobering almost life changing event. It all sticks out almost in HD, but the one thing that really caught my eye in the prison were pictures from when we liberated the camp. All the bodies, all the dead.. They used a bulldozer to actually dig a massive grave, and bulldozed the bodies into it. There was a picture of the bulldozer as it pushed the bodies along the ground into the hole.

My brother sometimes posts in here, maybe he can shed some light.

Summer of 73 I would have been 10, so that would have been 5th grade?

Dirty, smelly, expensive, locals hate tourists so you couldn't leave the hotel grounds without an escort, extremely limited places to eat, just not a good experience.

Thats amazing, I have always been interested in that part of Germany's history.
My son's great-grandparents were in Auschwitz, they were from Poland and they still have number tattoos. Hitler was insane and its amazing he had so many people in his command. What an experience you had.

Stayed at a B & B in Marblehead, Massachusetts that literally was right on the ocean. The waves crashed on base of the building and literally rocked you to sleep.

Where have you been that you would never return to?
Anywhere in Ohio. :twitch:

Where is the most interesting place you have been?
Interesting in a good or bad way?  My favorite is New Orleans for the history, music and food. A close second would be Savannah.
