Where is the best place to stay in Vegas? We are looking at being there for 4 days.

When you going and how much are you looking to spend and do you want the new vegas or the old vegas?

I've been doing lots of research and discovered the best time to go is "off-season" and there are tons of decent prized hotels, however, it depends on what you are looking to do while there as to where to stay.

Okay you want to be on the NEW strip - you could stay at Mandalay itself.

Here's some good hotels within walking (though some are a longer walker than others it's still not bad) and the average price

Bellagio $241
Luxor $121
Mandalay Bay $223
MGM Grand $176
New York - New York $150
Paris Las Vegas $168
Signature at MGM Grande... $219
THEhotel at Mandalay... $261
Treasure Island - TI $145
Venetian $260

Bally's is right across the street from Bellagio and attached to Paris..it's older but is cheaper. Luxor has good deals for suites and they are getting ready to start the new Cirque de Solei with Criss Angel in October...a must see IMO.

if you want to stay in complete luxury the Venetian or Bellagio is the way to go....Stratosphere is on the other side of the strip and it's real cheap because of it....it's only a 5 minute cab ride to Mandalay Bay..

Some are at the end of the strip, but it's still walkable. She's going to gamble, she won't be staying put in her room anyway. However, it gives her a starting point to look into for hotels.

I have stayed at several hotels on the strip. For close proximity to Mandalay, I would suggest Ceasars or Paris, which are both quite nice & you can find deals for them on the net.

I know... I've been... I'm just saying taking the hike from Treasure Island to Mandalay is quite a trek and she needs to be aware of distance. If I were her, I would chose a place very near her central focal point.

when you can legally drink on the sidewalk, is any walk really far? Plus...cabs are cheap!

Personally, I'd rather put my dough in the casinos than in a cabbie's pocket. And if I'm doing the drinking thing right... that makes the trip from one end of the stip to the other take three times as long... besides... the strip is also loaded with seedy characters... again... I'd want to be staying very near my focal point and then if I chose to take the long walks down to the other end of the strip... it would be by my chosing and not out of being forced because I made a bad location choice. There a plenty of awesome places to stay within a couple blocks of Mandalay.

Making the trek from end of the strip to the other IS A LONG WALK regardless if you're drinking or not. Aside from the cab mentioned, there are buses along the strip, a free tram shuttle between some of the hotels and you can buy a day pass to ride the vegas metro-thingy. I always take the free AIR-CONDITIONED tram and then walk the extra few blocks to get to some of the hotels at either end of the strip.

Ok gotcha...I guess to me, I'm laying down 3 times as much on one hand of blackjack than it cost to take a cab ride somewhere....

The seedy characters are why I go to Vegas!...it is by far one of the most fascinating places you can go in the US!

Luxor and Excalibur connect to Mandalay Bay through the tram that runs between just those three hotels. New York New York is right next to Luxor and MGM is directly across the street. Mandalay Bay is at the very end of the strip and is a pretty good walking distance to any hotel. If your husband is going to Mandalay Bay for a convention and you want to stay close those are your best bets because the tram runs only to the three hotels and is free. Excalibur is the cheapest of the hotels and usually more or less it is a younger crowd that stays there (I think because it is cheaper)although they are all owned by the same company, I prefer the MGM, but Luxor isnt bad either. Mandalay Bay is a very nice hotel, but more pricey then the others and that is also owned by the same company, but keep in mind that Mandalay Bay is at the VERY end of the strip.

You will have soo much fun. Hubby and I wanted to go back next month. We're gonna wait a little longer. We stayed at the Rennaissance last year which was really nice but it's not on the strip. The monorail was right next to the hotel so we just took that whenever we wanted to go somewhere. We want to stay on the strip next time just for the fun of it. My sister went shortly after we did and stayed at circus circus. She hated it. Too many kids there. We did make the mistake of buying drinks at the bar one night in the sahara. We won't do that again. Two drinks cost us $22! :faint: Drinks are free if you're playing in the casino. You gotta go up in the stratosphere..it's a must-see. We went to see a show there and it was great. What kind of convention is your hubby going to? I think we want to stay at the luxor this time. If you get a chance to go inside the Wynn. It's absolutely gorgeous! They have a flower garden inside the lobby.

We staid in the Stratosphere. It has the cheapest gambling table in Vegas. $5 gets you started. We went there in Dec 05. Had a blast. Craps is what you want to play. You can make a lot of money.

The Duce is the double decker bus that runs up and down The Strip. When we were there (in 06), the price for a 24 hr period was $5.
I never went off The Strip, so other than the taxi ride to and from the airport, I never took one to off Strip to the other hotel/museums (like The Palms or the Liberace museum). So I can not vouch for the cheapness of the cabs. It cost $15 to get from the airport to The Tropancana (which is one of the first hotels on The Strip from the airport) and I think it is cost around $13 back to the airport due to the no adding of the airport cab fee.

We are going in September for a week. Flying out the 11th which will require lots of drugs for me to relax, and coming home on the 17th.

We have stayed at the Excalibur and Monte Carlo. This time we are staying at our timeshare for a owner's update meeting. After that is done I think we will either stay there a couple more day, or go to red rock canyon resort. I am not a gambler really, and hubby will sit in the sport's book.

Ours is a business write off.

My brother also lives out there so I can visit with him for a short time.
