I am against slots as they may appear now. Why should we give that kind of money to race track owners who dont even live in Maryland.

This thread prompted my interest in the lottery to see how it works.
Here' some interesting info. I thought all of the proceeds from the state lottery went to the stadium authority. Only Mega Millions does. I don't play very often but it looks like I'll stick to multi-match for now on and stay away from Mega Millions.
Lottery revenues are deposited into the State's General Fund. Over $529 million was contributed to support such services and programs as education, public health, human resources, public safety and much more, all of which greatly benefit the citizens of Maryland.
Designated proceeds from the Mega Millions game benefit the Stadium Authority. In FY2008, $21,500,000 was contributed to the Stadium Authority.

The money wont just go to the track owners, but also to the horsemen via purses... right now the industry is dying, and over 130,000 people in Maryland make a living in some aspect involving the racetrack.
The track owners will pay huge amounts to the state for licenses, and a big percent of the revenue will go to the state for education, roads, etc.

as long as omalley and the idiots in the GA remain, no, the money will not go to schools.
sorry, but they can not be trusted with money.

And you can prove that how exactly?

by seeing what they have already done.
You think they can change how?

I'm not saying everyone in Annapolis is trust worthy, however this does give me some hope:
No Slippery Slope, because the referendum is a Constitutional amendment that prevents any additional expansion of gaming anywhere in Maryland without a future voter-approved Constitutional amendment.
As far as what will happen to us the tax payers if slots do NOT get passed, I'll take my chances...

On another note, slots are working in other states... Delaware, West Virginia, and now in Pennsylvania...
Why should people in Maryland help these states? People that gamble are going to gamble, doesnt matter if it's Keno, Lottery or Slots... I say keep the money at home.
Horse farms are being sold off as we speak, with housing developments to take their place... which means more schools to be built, more roads, more police, etc... now who do you think is going to have to pay for all of that?

That pretty much means the State with their Lotto and the Race track owners with their slots wil have a monopoly doesnt it??
Not a bad deal ---------------------for them. Wonder what they paid for that little benefit.
This just reminded me of when Beavis was talking to the old Lady :lmao:

Yes, they will have the monopoly... but the state already does... and the track owners will pay millons to the state for a license.
The upside is that slots will be limited to certain locations, and not turn up at the local gas stations and mom and pop stores... like keno did.
