Please think about who you give the keys to, or leave the keys around for someone to grab.
Tragic Death in a Charger SRT8 - Dodge Charger Forums (http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92767)
Cliff notes. Original poster has a friend who lives in TX. Friends stepson (17-20ish)got the SRT-8, and crashed it into some drainage pipes. More than that, she doesnt know yet.
And yes, being young doesnt automatically mean your a bad driver, or stupid. It does mean your more likely to know not to have the experience yet to form sound judgments about risk levels.

My husband has already said that once he gets his Super Bee and Barracuda finished, the garage will be locked up tighter than Ft Knox and the keys will be locked up too so when our kids gets older, they won't even be tempted to try to steal Dad's cars for a joy ride. Husband has even thought about how a person can try to foil his security.

If you're willing to give us the $40,000 it took to build his mega garage, I am sure we can work something out.

the car that took his life.
NO, His reckless action took his life. Nobody forced him to take and drive the car at excessive speed. It wasn't even his to begin with and apparently, without consent of the step father.

I dont think I, nor anyone else, claimed that the car took his life. He alone is responsible for that. My point was that a powerful car makes getting into a dangerous situation a little easier. If your going to give a boy a knife, it should be a small pocketknife, supervised, til your sure he can handle the responsibility, not a freaking razor sharp machete on a full tilt run through the jungle.
In any case, we now have a little more info. Turns out this young man was not a teen, but a 25yo man, who leaves his own children behind. Doesnt make it any less sad, maybe even more so, but the point remains, dont let unskilled/irresponsible drivers use your powerful car. And do take steps to reduce the chances that such may take it without your permission.

Thats really sad. Thank you for sharing. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I get on the guys all of the time about racing their cars. Its always going to happen. People don't learn from others mistakes. They think they are "good" drivers and it "wont happen to them." But it does.
The Supra isn't treated like that. :) Its too nice to treat like dirt.

Usually isnt the same as automatically. I did note the chances are increased, remember.
Automatically means %100, and thats just not so. At least say %15-%20 of teen drivers are good.:killingme

Too bad the two other idiots in the car didn't go with him and too bad the deceased one has already spawned.
Check out his lovely picture. :dude:
I see idiots like this speeding on 235 all of the time and hope they end up hamburger before they take an innocent out.
No sympathy.

Nah, too few doors for me, I refuse to flip my seat for anyone. :) Not to mention, til I get new knees, a manual is out of the question. And thats maybe 10 years out, according to my ortho guy.

FWIW I prefer the look of the Charger anyways. I was at Park Dodge a few weeks ago and although nice, I don't think the Challenger is any nicer than the charger. Sharp, yes but not worth the extra money IMO.

For me, its two equally attractive cars, just look different from each other, I cant say I prefer one over the other, at least in the lesser trim levels. I do feel they didnt do enough to stand the SRT out from the R/Ts.
If you dont see the Brembos, you cant know its an SRT, and thats sad:smack:
The Charger, theres no mistaking the SRT.
That you, Kenny?

I'm not a big Dodge fan but I do agree. The SRT needs more or the R/T needs less to separate these two models. I was watching a show and they were saying just to get the R/T. Unless you want to spend a couple thousand more for a couple of small differences.

Great avatar, BTW:) Kids and I just found a small sackboy doll in the game your character can carry around:)
See, about that show you saw, thats where folks who dont know the details car steer you wrong. While the visual differences are small, too small in my opinion, the mechanical ones are pretty big, and thats what the extra money is for.
The extra money isnt just for looks, theres a ton of differences otherwise. The brakes are substantially improved, different rotors and pads and the Brembos calipers front and rear, the suspension is setup 1/2 inch lower for better handling, the trans programming in the autos is different, lifted from AMG, the rear differential is stouter, driveshaft and axles beefier. Not to mention the fact that the stabilty control system can be completely turned off. In addition the that, the ON and OFF modes have raised thresholds so the system is less intrusive in any mode. Now, unless your a nut about cars and driving, these differences might not be worth it, but to some folks they are. Oh, and the 6.1 liter engine is a nice bonus:)

Hey I know Kenny! I'm not him though... You know who I am (just not on here). That construction getting to you yet Bill?
Back on topic yes both cars are very attractive. I would likely get the R/T if the wife lets me trade the charger in. 376 ponies is plenty for me and I like the 20" rims option and the manual. Would miss havin that back seat though when my boy's little ones come to visit...
When's the next Walmart meet? Been away from the Charger forum for a few months.

The construction guys are actually not bugging me at all. They are taking great pains to minimize the heartache. Only goes to one lane after Ive gone to work, and goes back to two lanes before I come home from work. I do deal wit it at lunchtime, but they move traffic through pretty smoothly. Pretty good about keeping the dirt off the roadway too.
The switchover point is right at the end of my driveway, and the lady who works to SLOW/STOP sign is very nice. Lets me know if the mail is there, always a wave and a bit of chat as I get the mail.
