Anyone else noticing the Forums loading extremely slow tonight? Been this way for me for about 15 minutes now.

I seem to have been noticing an increase of the number of these LAG events lately.

There is some DOS Command Line like TRACEROUTE something or other that David had given me once to check out where the snarl was. Trouble is I can't remeber what it was.

Much better now. I sent an email off to David asking rod the Command again. I thought I had it here. It traced all the connections back to the server. 13 of them between here and there I think. Would tell you which one was hanging up.

That looks familiar.. Must be it. I have run it before when I noticed this and found the issue to be wherever the server is. David was able to use the results to show them there was an issue.

Yep! I was on last night about 10pm and I was able to go to the bathroom and come back before the page loaded. I checked another site and it loaded quickly so I knew it was SoMd's site. It has been loading much slower than usual for the last few months. I even turned off my phishing filter thinking it was that but it wasn't. I really have trouble when searching for a thread. It often takes more than 15 seconds to find what I'm looking for. I live with it though. Maybe too many archived threads??? Not enough memory left???

Naw, if other sites load quickly, it's the links between you and SoMD. I don't have problems with load speeds when others say they do. If you look at the list of network servers between what Jeff posted and I posted, the packets take two entirely different paths. Where he was getting timeouts, I didn't have a problem. I'm guessing most of you are on Cable. I'm on Verizon DSL at home.

I just found out why the forum pages are loading slower. There is spyware being loaded from this site. I always watch the address bar at the bottom left of the page when it is loading and it said "ad double click .net". last night I did a complete virus scam and it found that spyware on my computer. Most of the time, after I click on a forum topic, the lower bar says "waiting for Somd forums" and then the ad double click word shows up for an instant.
I've seen this lately when the page loads but you have to look quickly, it's only on for an instant. Why the need for spyware on this forum Jeff?

Spyware is a way that companies monitor what sites, ads or products that you look at or visit so they can harass you by sending you emails or spam ads about what they think you'd want to buy. Why it's on here I don't know unless it is from those irritating ads at the top & bottoom of each page. There was a Muslim matrimonial site on here; what's up with that!!???

Spyware, yeah, sure, right. NOT. Perhaps, at most, a tracking cookie to maintain web site state data (very very common). Doubleclick.net is *the* most common wedsite ad serving company in the universe, if there was a problem with them regarding "spyware" then oh, I guess cnn.com would be having the same problem, eh?

You *way* overstate the spyware thing, and you really should not do the web forum equivilant of shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre without at least knowing the facts first.

Those annoying ads are what PAY for somd.com, eh? Ever heard the saying "there is no such thing as a free lunch!" ?

Those Muslim ads are Google Adwords ads and are context sensitive. Click on one and somebody's credit card gets deducted anywhere from .10 to $5.00 --- it's a clickthrough to pay systen, with the advertiser bidding on the cost per click to establish priority to be displayed. It is actually more complicated than that though.

Spyware? No. A reasonable revinue model that keeps the money flowing so that the core content, ie. the forums, can be "free"? Sounds like a good idea to me!

Ping just sends a packet directly to the IP addresses without stopping to get the hop names and statistics. The end results should be the same millisecond delay.
