View Full Version : 2009 travel plans?
Planning for the Grand Canyon in June if all goes well, will take 21 days to see stuff this time. Hoping to see (from a distance) a wall cloud form into a tornado (away from towns) in the Kansas/Oklahoma areas.
would be good to have another forum camp trip, maybe bet a few more people out with their weekend toys this time and meet some more people.
couple small trips over the summer (3 day type) then if we are not totally broke by then, a week in Puerto Rico so skillet girl can visit with her cousins between Christmas and New Years.
anyone else know their plans yet?

I visted the Grand Canyon a couple years ago and I swear that is the ONLY place in the world I insist on visiting at least once again before I die. Words cannot express the awe I felt while there.

We just don't plan this far out...we usually wait about a week before our vacation is to start to even really start thinking about it...we decided 2 days before we went to Kentucky, and same when we went to Michigan....I know it is crazy, but we had a blast both times!!! We just hook up the 5th wheel and go!!!

Taking the camper up to Cape Cod for a week and a half over the 4th of July. Other than that we don't have much planned except the normal trips to Luray and Williamsburg.

The grand canyon is amazing. I've been to two of the rims. One is near Williams or wherever that train goes from, but the Southern one I visited while staying in Vegas. Almost nobody goes there and the views are still very impressive

Sedona's red rock is fantastic. the jeep drives through there were great. i did sedona + grand canyon + vegas for a trip once...talk about fun. I screwed up and left Sedona early to go to that desolate Williams place. Oops. :frown:
I'm doing a mini 'vacation' to DC (woo!), probably heading to FL at some point, and hittin up Vegas! :yahoo:

We are going to Hagerstown Yogi and doing fireworks at Antietam - did this in 2004 - really neat to watch the fireworks on the side of a mountian
2 years ago we went to Virginia beach and camped at First Landing State Parks, they had their own fireworkds display there on the beach - awesome show.

I got back from a Bahamas cruise last night. Next month I'm taking a skiing vacation. Nothing else planned yet, but that doesn't mean I don't have something in the works.

You can also take helicopter and light-plane rides into the canyon. There's a bunch of hiking tours.
Plus - they have a new skywalk - but it's REALLY expensive to use it. It's a big horse-shoe shaped protuberence that goes out over the hole with a transparent bottom so you can look down as you walk out on it.
Very cool. Very expensive.
ObOnTopic: I plan on visiting Arizona this year too. Most likely the South part of the state, however. Visiting parents near Tucson. I can't wait to smell the desert and see those mountains again.
Now I'm all homesick :(

its like 40.00 a person, but that includes transportation to it, then lunch plus you get to go through the indian tourist trap that is set up outside of it.
the thing is owned by the indians.
its not really as bad as it sounds. besides, after spending a couple grand on gas to get there and back, whats another 120 to walk the family over the chasm of death?

We're already looking at 2010. Start in Europe, and sail back to the US.
Bob wants a southerly cruise, he wants to learn how to scuba dive on the cruise, get to the Caribean and do an open ocean dive where the water is clear.

Turns out our first vacation of the year will be Myrtle Beach, SC. MIL wants to go visit her cousin, so I took advantage of MLK & Inauguration day. One more week! Can't wait!!! :yahoo: Other than that, we usually do long weekends. Just get an itch, pack up the truck, and off we go!!

WE didn't make the forum campout the last time because we had other plans already.
Someone should start planning for this year soon before everyone starts making other plans

Taking an 8 day Carnival cruise with the husband and kids in December for Christmas. We'll be travelling to Cozumel, Costa Rica and Panama. We are very excited, we've cruised with the kids before and it's great.
If we can swing it, we are going to also try for a Space A trip someplace in Europe this summer with the kids, thinking Germany or Spain since there usually are l;ots of flights headed that way. Plan 2 weeks of leave but spend 5-7 days in Europe since it can be tricky getting flights and we may fly out of one base but return to the US through another.

Im in.
I say make it early enough for it to be cool at night, but nice during the day.
would be good to have a three day/two night planned so more people can show.
Take it easy campground was a good place last year, I expect it would be just as good this year.
