I'll do you one better. I am the owner (well one of them, my hubby is the other "boss")....And we do care what the community thinks. So any suggestions please make them, Favorite flavors let us know, comment and suggestins are always welcome. We want to know if we should consider opening early and also how many people still don't even know we are there. We want to know what people think and what better way than to just ask?

Oh come on it's ok during the day....

I get your point and as they are closed for the season it is a mute point right now. During the work week though I am no where near the location and on the weekends I avoid the park as much as possible. Especially since last year gas prices were so high. I did all my shopping on the way home. Also since there is no designated outside seating I do not feel comfortable sitting in the car in the parking lot off of GMR eating an icey and I live too far to drive home without a meltdown.

I do wish their business well, the location is just not convenient or IMO safe for me and my family.

Funny you should post, I was asking my hubby today, when we passed the one in Prince Frederick, how can Rita's afford to close from October to March? I mean there are still bills to be paid and all that. Probably none of my business, but since you're an owner, who better to ask.

No reason that it should be closed. Dairy Queen is open all year round.

No DQ in these parts that I know of. I also only eat ice cream once every couple of months so it wouldn't really matter if there was one at the end of my road. I do like italian ice's though but again only on occasion.

I love Rita's but I must admit that it is in a bad location. Not because of the area itself but because of the parking. It is awful trying to get up in that little hole. I'm surprised that there hasn't been many accidents. It would be nice if you could make an area where you could put a few tables with umbrellas so that people can sit and enjoy their treat. Just a suggestion.
I like the Ice Tea and cherry flavors.

I used to go to the original Rita's in Bensalem, my dad would take me there on our way to the shore. When Rita's starting popping up everywhere I'd take the kids that worked at the bookstore I managed out for water ice every night in the summer after work. The 2 flavors you could always get were lemon, cherry and chocolate.

Open early, please.

No we do not own the one in PF, just Lexington park. We do have a sitting area. It is the wall we had built around the store front. We built that so people can sit on it. Also, we (the owners) are there everyday from open till close and we do everything we can to ensure our guests saftey. The landlord also has an officer there at our shopping center during the early evening hours and through the night. We have not had any saftey issues at all and strive to make sure that doesn't change in the future. If we see shady characters near our store, we call the police and get rid of them ASAP. 2008 was our 1st season so we were just looking to the community to see if there is anything we can do to make the experience better for them for 2009. We are all about the customer and their experience.

As far as closing, most people who have a Rita's also have another job to support them in the winter months. It is not a get rich quick business. It requires a lot of dedication and hard work. Since it is only our 2nd season coming up, we know there is a lot to learn still, so we wanted to ask what the communicty wants. We are making some changes this year so we will be able to offer a wider variety of flavors so hopefully we will have a flavor you like every time you come. That is just one of the many changes customers will see this coming season.

Comments are always welcome. Our direct email is RitasLexPark@comcast.net.

Missy_State---We wish parking was a little better too. It is a good location, we didn't just pick it out of the sky. We did ALOT of research before going there. We also can't put up any tables and chairs at this time, county regulations at this point prevent us from doing that. Because of possible vandalism to the tables & chairs we decided not to go that route from the start and did the concrete wall for people to sit on. We just can't buy any table and chairs, we must buy Rita's stuff and its very expensive. The Waldorf store is also set up with the concrete sitting wall and we liked that very much, so we went with it for our store.

We hope that everyone will stop by and and least give us a try.

Last summer my co-worker and I had Rita's at least twice a week. The only complaint that I have is that you need more sugar free flavors. I think there was only 4 last year. Plus, you would only have one sugar free flavor per day. I called one time and was told that root beer was the best selling sugar free and that is why it was the one available most of the time.

Also, I don't know if this is possible...sugar free yogurt? My co-worker would always get the bendini things and I was always so jealous because I couldn't have the yogurt because of the sugar.

ketelone- In the past Rita's only has had 4 Sugar free flavors for us to offer. However, they have come up with 3 new sugar free flavors for this season! Pineapple, Mango-Peach and Chocolate. I hope that you will give them all a try and let us know what you think of them. I am not sure if you are aware of this or not but at Rita's we have a 36 hour rule for ice. So we cannot sell or give away ice after 36 hours. The sugar free flavors do not sell as well so we only have one each day and usually always end up throwing some away. If we had more than one each day, we would no doubt throw away most of it and loose money. So that is why we only have one each day. Hopefully these new flavors will be a hit and we can offer them more this year along with one of the veteran sugar free flavors. It is hard to try and please everyone woth so many flavors. We just can't have them all every day, but we do our best and we learned a lot this past season as far as what flavors people really like and which ones they do not.

As far as sugar free yogurt, I cannot help you with that one. We cannot sell anything that is not approved by Rita's. At this time we do have the fat free soft serve in vanilla, but no sugar free. I will pass on your request to corporate for you. Maybe it will result in something later down the road.

Please introduce yourself when you stop by this season. I would love to meet you and say hello. Thank you for your feedback.

I love the sugar free flavors... but I never really liked the frozen yogurt there its like it has too much air in it or something way to fluffy.

We don't have frozen yougurt so you don't have to worry about that. We offer custard which is very different from ice cream and then the fat free soft serve vanilla.

Not trying to advertise, just trying to see what everyone thinks after our 1st season and gauge if we should open early or not. I am doing what it takes to find out what the public wants so we can make it happen for them in the new season. I call it a good business move. If I don't ask then I wont know. Most people don't tell you the good things, only the bad. So this is a way to see how we did and what we can approve on.

For those of you who fell in love with the new flavor released last year, Cotton Candy. I just wanted to let you know it has just been announced that it will be a permanent flavor for 2009! Originally it was only going to be released in August, again as in 2008, as a limited time flavor. Hope that makes those of you who like it happy and brings a smile to your face! See you soon!

My wife and I are Rita's nuts since coming to SOMD from Maine (no such thing up there!) When Rita's opened locally last year we were pretty happy. We did note a couple issues that we simply chocked up to growing pains.

We might be in the minority, but we like the skinny custard (i.e. fat free). This LP Rita's just never seemed to have it in stock. On a couple occasions when asking for it, the window worker didn't even know what we was talking about. That was discouraging, when just the weekend before we ate some from the PF Rita's. We did ask for it once when it was listed and we were honestly told that the mixture had been screwed up and it hadn't come out right that particular day. Disappointing but we understood.

My wife is a HUGE root beer flavor fan. Root beer was one of those flavors that we seemed to miss on the days we'd go. It just wouldn't be on the signage. But when visiting other Rita's, Root Beer seems to be a staple and always available.

On a few visits, I'd wait in line, carefully choosing our flavors from the sign in front, only to find out at the window that neither flavor was available that day. "But it's on the sign." "No, it's not." "Yes, right here...<me pointing>" "<head coming out of window to see sign> Well, It shouldn't be there." I'd then have to back up out of line to readjust and figure out something new. Pretty soon I just learned to have multiple flavor ideas in mind just in case.

So, just a couple growing pains sorts of comments from our household. Location is not 100% perfect, but it's do-able.

And with that said I would like to back it up. I went to Rita's about 3-4 times a week and loved all of it. The service was fantastic and the Flavors were great. I really hope you do open up earlier. You will have so many different opinions and your going to find yourself back to square one. What one person likes another one hates. But hey good luck. Hope you guys stick around, really enjoy taking the kiddo's there after the dog park or football practice. I've been there and have NEVER had a problem in that area. All the trash stays down by Burger King and Motel whatever it is. Good luck to ya!!

Orionreplay: First off, I am very sorry you had a few issues when you visited the store that were not 100% satisfactory. Yes, it was our 1st year and we did learn alot. However, I would like to just clear up the Slenderita (fat free custard) problem you described. We didn't have it a on many days because it was a new product for Rita's in general and they were still working on the formulation of it. We got the "old" formula batch in the beginning and that was the 1st problems we had. It didn't dispense properly and so we didn't serve it to our guests. We had the machine adjusted so it would freeze more in order to dispense properly and then we started serving it again. Then the new formula came out but our custard machines were not adjusted for the new formula so when we did get the new formula it did not dispense well again. It came out like thick soup and we just didn't want to serve that to our guests. If it is not 100% up to the standard we know it should be we are not going to put our reputation on the line and serve a substandard product to our guests. We know that they put their trust and hard earned dollars to our store. We don't want to just make the sale we want you to come back again 100% satisfied with your visit every time. We also had many issues with our deliveries because we were so far down south. Our deliveries didn't come correct and so that resulted in us not having the product to offer. We do apologize for that but it is totally out of our control.. Luckily it is all straight for this season and we should have no problems. We will have the Slenderita EVERY day.

The Rootbeer ice is another story. We have over 40 flavors and we just can't offer them all, so we rotate them. Seems like teh luck of the draw just wasn't with you for teh Rootbeer. We do run out of flavors in teh middle of a day and sometime the employees may have forgotten to take down the flavor slat on the menu boads. We will be on top of that this year much better than last. We have a new website for this year and we will have teh flavors of the day on there daily so you can go look to see if we will have Rootbeer that way you are not making a trip for nothing. You can always call the store and ask as well. The webite is Rita's of Lexington Park (http://www.ritasoflexingtonpark.com). Thank you for your input. It does help us so we know what to work on for the coming year.

QueenBeeach: Thank you for the wonderful comments you made, they are appreciated. It was our 1st season and we did try our best to do the very best we could for our guests. It was a HUGE learning curve for us and we did learn a lot. This year we promise to make it better!

We will be opening this weekend, on February 27 at noon! Come by and see us....

Thank you Clbkatz for the response. As I said we sort of figured that most of what we were seeing were "growing pains" during the first year and it sounds like it was already recognized (as well as corrected!).
