So, what do you do with your ring after the vows no longer mean anything?
I spent over 900 on my ring alone (retails for 1345). What do I do with it now? Can't wear it because that would be a bit disrespectful. Dont know anything about Pawn shops so I'm not sure if Id get anything close to what I paid. Thought about having it melted down and turning it into something else but what, and is that still a disrespect thing if I was to wear it as something else?
Do people actually buy wedding rings off of Ebay and would I make any money from it? (picture below is my ring).
Im so lost as to what to do with this thing its just following me around the country kinda like my piano. Gawd I wish I could find someone to just give that dammed thing to :killingmeStupid piano.
N E ways before my ---oh look a quarter sets in---- what should I do with this ring? (other than give it away).

can't hurt to browse ebay and see how much wedding bands are going for. pawn shops you wouldn't get as much as you're probably hoping for, so i'd think ebay is your best bet. everyone would just go to the pawn shop if they could get the same value as they can on ebay.
i told you...i'll offer you $5! :dye:
fine, make it $10!

Ebay is a good way to go, what's the carat weight? I can probably give ya a good estimate as to how much you'll get! Or you can take it to KAY Jewelers at the Iverson Mall, they except Trade ins! That way you could maybe get a little something special for Kvj!!!

If you don't need extra money right now, I'd hang on to it. There's likely to be a time in the future when gold (I'm assuming it's white gold and not platinum) prices are high enough to justify it being worth more than you could possibly sell it for now.
Besides, I would think that a subtle 'I'm married' symbol would be helpful in regard to meeting females.

One - sell it on ebay. You may not get $900 but you'll probably make a couple hundred. Maybe more if you have the original box and any documentation on it.
Two - take it to a jeweler and have something else made out of it. Could make a cool pendent. Maybe several pendents and you could give one to each of your kids.
Three - save it for your kids. Perhaps one of them may use it as their ring or even redesign it and use the materials.

That's bad mojo, but then again I'm superstitious. You never use something from another woman symbolizing love (even if the love isn't there anymore) to get something for a different woman.

Great idea BUT not a good idea. This wedding wasnt to his mom. Doubt he would want it. :ohwell:

Im pretty sure but not positive its a little over a half a carat total in diamonds and 14k gold.

I wouldn't care. but I don't know how Kvj would feel. I look at it like okay either sell it and get a couple hundred,(then spend the money you got on your girlfriend) teehheehee! Or trade it in and get something for your girlfriend. by trading it in it cuts out the whole step of selling it!!

If you had a daughter with her you could make it into a pendant for her and give it to her when she gets married as the something old.
or put it in a safe place and forget about it then you will always have the good memories from the marriage.

No. As long as you are keeping it and / or keeping it within your family as applicable. Now if you were making it into a pendant and giving it to another chick - then it would be icky and definitely bad mojo. It would even be bad imho to use in another marriage. But your past is part of you, and by making something new from something old - it shows you are moving forward.
A lot of divorced women get their engagement/wedding bands made into something else - different rings, pins, pendants, earrings.
There had to have been love there at some point, otherwise you wouldn't have married the person. So symbolically, you are taking the love (the ring) and making it into something positive and new for your new life.

Take it to a jeweler. I suggest Rick's up next to Asahi. I'm sure someone else may suggest another jeweler. Tell him you want to make it into something else, but you don't know what and can he give you suggestions. A good jeweler will talk to you, explain what can be done, and give you some different design options. You don't have to do anything, but it may give you some better ideas about what options are available.

In her case especially I suggest holding on to it, or designing her something out of it when she's 16 or so.

Rick's took care of my old engagement and wedding bands....they broke the rings down into two pieces of jewelry that I handed down to my kids. (son and daughter) They love the pieces and appreciated the thought behind my gift to them.

Just as an FYI, I received some jewelry when I was younger that I never wore. I have since taken a lot of that jewelry and had it redesigned into other things. But it's more meaningful than buying it somewhere of the shelf, since it was in my family, and cost me a lot less since I was supplying the material. Also gold will always be a valuable commodity.

So, what do you do with your ring after the vows no longer mean anything?
My wedding band wasn't very expensive, and I didn't ever wear it, so it has no sentimental or monetary value to me. I have it in a ring box and it will probably stay there.
However, I do have 2 of HER rings that are worth a pretty penny. I've tried to sell them, privately, at consignment shops, to jewelers, no one wants them, so they too sit in a box. I have 3 nieces and feel it would be in bad taste to give only one of them the "big" ring, and I would never think of giving it to whomever I might happen to settle in with at a later time. So, I'm kinda stuck with them.

You could have the big stone (or any of the stones) made into a pendant. I don't think that is bad juju. Giving it in ring form to another woman just feels wrong.

So, I'm kinda stuck with them.
:howdy: I'll send you my address or we can do lunch.
My son has a gorgeous ring he had custom made for his girlfriend...it didn't work out, he never gave her the ring. I think the somd ad just ran out...he's advertised everywhere and at a substantial cut in what he paid for it. Even the jeweler that made it said it's hard to resell them..and he didn't offer to take it back.
I don't believe in the bad juju thing. When Ott and I got married, we didn't have a lot of money, each of us had a child and we had just purchased a house. I had my engagement ring from my prior marriage..we had it reset and bought a new band. We've been together almost 30 years..married almost 27.

4D, it's a beautiful ring. My mother has the same ring (from her second marriage after my dad died). I've always thought it was beautiful. It was a great ring for my mother since she was older and didn't really want or need an engagement ring. My step father passed away nearly two years ago, she still wears hers.

In your case, since you didn't have children with your wife, I'd sell it really cheap to a fellow forumite  What did you say your favorite liquor was again?

How about just selling them together, like, as a set? That would probably bring more money than just selling them seperately, too :yay:

I had my wedding and engagement rings melted down and made into a heart pendant.
As far as someone new not liking it... my last boyfriend didn't seem to mind, but he didn't have much room to talk ~ considering he had a tattoo with his ex's name on his arm.
Ex-hubby thought the heart pendant was a great idea.

I really thought I wanted a princess cut until I saw my ring. It's a round cut with a 4 prong setting. Usually they do too many prongs with the round, but this is perfect. My round also sparkled more than the princess cut rings at the store.
