View Full Version : Really terrible guitar players...wanna jam?

Greetings all....
I'm a middle-aged guy (45), who ploddingly plays guitar rather poorly- but really enjoys it nonetheless.
Just wondering if there are any other really lousy players who'd like to hang out every once in a while and jam.
I know there are plenty of great guitarists in SoMd that get together regularly... but frankly I'd be too embarrassed to even think about participating.
This would purely be for fun. Play some guitar, drink a beer/beverage of choice, tell some war stories, play some guitar, repeat as desired.
Myself- I'm primarily a fan of classic rock, but open to any kind of music. Have both acoustic and electric (just a small practice amp).
I live in La Plata, but can meet up pretty much anywhere in SoMD.
Again, I am pretty lousy. I can't read music, and probably don't play any songs the "correct" way (I adjust for what I can do). But I still dig playing anyway. So if anyone's interested in hanging out and sounding amateurish togther (the more the merrier!) drop me a note either here or at tiger3woods@yahoo.com.
peace,
john

I prefer Rock Band :ohwell: Set up the new drums last night for RB2. They are 10x's better then the original. So hooked on playing the drums I want my own "real" set to play on.
OK you can get back on topic again and good luck. :lmao:

Influences. Let's see, there's Newcastle, Corona, Rolling Rock, Yuengling, Captain Morgan.... oh wait...you probably mean musical influences!
In that case, I guess I'd say guys like Page, Hendrix, Young (both Neil and Angus), the guys from Spill Canvas, Clark Brothers (the three brothers from that "Next Great American Band" show), etc.
But it's hard to really say they are influences in the classic sense of the term, as I my playing doesn't resemble anything these guys do!
ok....45....upper middle-age maybe? geez...now I feel really old....
Aww. This thread is cute.

I would not be against hosting a get together. I have a place available (a bar in Hollywood) complete with a PA system, basic recording capability, a keyboard and small set of electronic drums, did I mention beer??? I'm an old (got a few years on both you and Larry) guitar player myself probably somewhere yourself and Larry (BTW great recordings Larry) I've got a few guitars I need to knock the dust off of and a couple of amps. Several years ago I hosted a weekly jam session but don't want to get into that again. An informal get together once in a while would be OK though. A Saturday afternoon would work out best for my schedule. Lets kick the idea around and if we can come up with a date, make it happen.

I'm a semi retired bass player. My fender hasn't seen a real stage, recording studio or jam session in many years. Years ago I made a living playing music but it got to a point were it just wasn't fun anymore. I really miss the old days of improv jams with friends. If this ever comes together I'm in.

I live in Hollywood also, and haven't played in years, so I'm sure I qualify as a really terrible guitar player. Sounds interesting.

I'm looking at spring (guess that's almost here) before I can set it up. Right now there's still snow on the slopes, skiing awaits!

I just got here from Michigan, and just re-started playing after a 20 year hiatus. And yes, for the moment, I suck as well. Im also 45. Ive got an Epiphone Les Paul Elitist Honeyburstm a crybaby distortion and fuzz distortion and a Line6 15 watt practice amp.

Hey Tomcat... thanks for the generous offer to host!
Just to keep the idea alive here, did you want to throw out a tentative date that might work for you to gauge to see what the response from folks here might be?

I'm a 36 year old drummer that would like to jam out just for fun.. Used to play in bands in the past but have NO time for that anymore. I can't find anybody to just jam with. Everyone wants to "Work Hard" and go on a world tour. Let me know if I can get in? I also have a basement available to play in and I live in White Plains (Just north of Laplata). I am more a hard rock/80's metal guy with dbbl bass, but like all rock. Have cowbell if we "Need more cowbell". Worse comes to worse, I have RB2 with ION Drums and 2 guitars and mic if we want to just sound like we all know what we're doing

I want to get back into playing guitar again--I'm not necessarily awful, per se; but very rusty with no callouses left at all (ouch!) after a 25 year lapse.
I'm available and want to do this, so let's.
I have a Guild D-35 dreadnought acoustic that I'd prefer to start out with to get the callouses happening. No ego trips. Playing with other players always it more fun and productive for all concerned.

*FLASH!!!
Also have a hardly ever used (bought 20 yrs ago) Fender Strat and a Crate amp gathering dust from a past mid-DOD Fed career fantasy! ha-ha
That's my situation too. I used to play a lot, but not anymore. I'm looking forward to playing more.

SMYFFL-
Yo. I'm not sure just what your comment implies-and I don't care enough to try to figure it out.
My number is out there.
If you can contribute anything to a little jam session, great. I'd love to see what you think like...
D-35, I think he's saying we suck, so we should jam together and form a band. Now we just need a name! :lmao:
Oh, plus, he has drums. That always is the driver...:killingme

This is all quite cute to see. A group of guys who haven't played in some years decide to dust off the instruments and gather together in the name of music. Something a storybook couldn't quite capture.

Suggest that: Electric bass is fine, but no drums for a while until the vocal/harmony duties are kinda identified.
Just giving input to get some feedback. Later. D-35 Rick[/QUOTE]
vocal/harmony duties? Thats already sounding too serious for me already.
Larry, I'm actually good for Saturday.. Let me know when and where. As I mentioned, I have a basement to play in if desired. Anybody else? Tom?

Understand that duty, roles and assignments don't fit in with the current anarchy that you spoiled punks have signed on to support. You guys and
"0" have the ball in your court and the MSM will feed you the lies that keep you all stupid and unquestioning--ignorant of World and US History, because despite computers, 90% of you are non-readers.
