Or are the forums running really, really slow? I don't seem to be having a problem with other websites.

Of course, as soon as I posted this thread, the pace picked back up....see what happens when you complain?

It has been happening to me a lot lately. When I simpy go to the next page of a thread, one time it takes 18 seconds and other times it only takes 1-2 seconds. Sometimes the page has to be refreshed because I get an empty SoMd page. I have the headings of SoMd.com but the threads aren't there.

It was slow yesterday because of a server hiccup, but I haven't had any problems so far today.

It was slow yesterday because of a server hiccup, but I haven't had any problems so far today.
What is happening here is:
I click any forum link, For Example, Quick Links > Todays Posts. One time I do it, it loads in a couple seconds. Try it again, 10-15 seconds.
It's a doable here, but it is very noticable.
Adding an edit here. Was the same way yesterday while doing a few scanner posts. I wasn't able to update the posts every minute or so like I normally do. Ended up saying phooey on it.

It's running as fast as ever here. If its fine for some and not others, its not the server or local network. Would have to be between your ISP and the server or one of the other services the page is calling.
Is it by any chance hanging right before it displays the Google ads near the top of the page?

Been working fine the last couple of hours. But the details above pretty much define what I have seen here. not sure about the google ads. It will go to whatever page I want and start to load it.
1st off I was getting just the bar at the top showing User CP, Register, Blogs, FAQ etc.
And it would delay there for various periods of time before loading the posts.
Once the posts loaded, then it would take even more time to load the bottom of the page where it shows who is looking at the thread and such. Sometimes upward of a couple minutes or not at all and I would have to refresh.
I didn't pay any attention to the goggle adds.

I have observed significant lag times this afternoon due to a third-party ad server we use to display a certain block of ads. I suspect this is what you are reporting. I'll report this to them this evening -- we'll pull their code if they don't fix it ASAP.
Sorry for the problems...

Thanks for finding it Dave. I can only do a process of elimination here. Most sites load quickly here (I have DSL) but a one or two are slow. I never realized that one of the page ads could slow it up. :yay:

>> I never realized that one of the page ads could slow it up.
That's one of the dirty little secrets about JavaScript. If a script is slow to load, because of lags or timeouts to the server hosting the JS code, it can dog the entire page. All of the browsers seem to handle it the same exact way. They need to change their rendering engine so page display will continue unabated despite JS script load issues. iFrames are one possible solution...

....or eliminate the ads all together. Just sayin'.
