I need a good vegetarian chili recipe that won't have people asking :where's the meat?".

I'm sure I could come up with one that would leave them speechless. In any intelligible language anyway.:killingme

Why?

if you don't want folks asking "where's the meat" the easiest solution would be to add pieces of dead animal.

Make it like you normally do and add Boca crumbles instead of ground beef.

Not that I condone vegetarian chili or anything heinous like that..... :twitch:

But what are "Boca crumbles?"

Genuine imitation replicates of browned ground beef.

Abbreviated version:

Add to crock pot. Serve with onions and cheese in about 6 hours. (I like sour cream with mine)

Enhanced:
Add diced Jalepenos, onion and green peppers to the crock pot.

MK and I have put tofu in our chili and it was really good. We add refried beans to it to thicken it up. I would get some of that vegitarian sausage or even cut up some veggies burgers into meat sized hunks.

Tofu is just bean curd and is great at absorbing the flavor of whatever you put it in. Small chunks of tofu in chili and you don't even know it's there!

She asked for vegitarian ideas so I gave her mine! I use ground turkey in mine and it's fabulous but if I wanted meatless I'd just subtract that and add tofu and veggie burgers. I added tofu in with my meated chili.

Might be, I've never tried it. I don't even know what a cannellini bean is. and I'm having a hard time thinking about how those garbonzo beans would be.

Same here. :yay: It doesn't need meat to be delicious. Add the chili seasonings and it is good to go (chili powder, cumin and garlic)

Then why even bother putting it in in the first place?

I like bean soup, but if you want to call it "chili" you have to put meat in it.

I don't have to do anything of the sort. I always have though. Someday, however, I will just because I can do what I want and I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Ps, there is chili and chili con carne for a reason. Sometimes you can't rustle up any meat.

I put ham in my 15 bean soup.

I DO put meat in my chili but have added tofu chunks as well. It ups the protein without the animal fat. I'm all about getting proper nutrition out of my food!

My wife typically uses black soy beans. MUCH higher in protein, and in chili, almost indistinguishable from kidney beans.

The more spices and "hots" you put in it; the better it is. You don't even miss the meat. I had the pot so garbaged up with stuff, no-one missed the meat.
