I have recently purchased chuck light Chicken of the Sea and white albacore Bumble Bee tuna from a warehouse store. Each of my purchases the tuna has been awful. It has been shredded (not chunks), it had bones and some dark spots in it. A coworker has also had the problem with the white albacore. She described it as looking like cat food. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Where can you find a good can of tuna these days? Is this problem only at the warehouse stores or has the quality of tuna gone down in general?

BB's SOLID White Albacore isn't much better. The last two cans I opened were chunks and shreds. :ohwell:

I get my white albacore tuna from BJ's and its just fine and sometimes I pick up a few cans from the grocery store if I don't have plans to hit bj's when I am about to run out. I have never had any problems with my tuna except for one time when I found a small piece of bone in it but that is it.

Yes, and they're more expensive. :ohwell:
I don't eat the albacore. It's too dry for my taste. I just get the regular tuna in water or oil.

I was thinking the same thing. :eyebrow:
Tuna used to come in 6 ounce cans, now they are 5 ounces and cost more. I've noticed that there is a lot more water and that it's shredded. I usually buy Chicken of the Sea Chunk Light but love the Albacore! Nicks has the best tuna packed in Olive Oil, Yum.

I, now, only eat the Bumble Bee brand "Premiun light tuna in water" in the flavor seal, foil pouch. Moist but not drippy and no bones. (Now watch, tomorrow I'll have bones in it). Tuna and eggs are the same with me: if I find a shell or a bone, the rest goes in the trash. Yuck!!!
I usually chop up some onion and celery very fine and only add a bit of mayo and some "Mrs Dash" seasoning and it is awesome!

The quality of tuna started going downhill a decade ago.
More juice, shreds, and I rarely see chunks. Yet, I keep buying it. Kind of like gasoline, I need tuna for some reason.

The foil pouch is the only way to go! :yay: I never by a can anymore, solid white albacore in the pouch only. No squeezing the can and finding out you paid a lot for the salty water going down the drain and no stinky fish juice in the sink. Alton Brown on HGTV's Good Eats explained how tuna in the can is essentially very overcooked due to the canning process and how the pouch is fresher tasting and superior. I gave it a try and was hooked.

I used to buy an Italian import tuna packed in olive oil with a nice hint of herbs. It made the richest tuna sandwich in the world. :yum: I can't find it down here in the land of beans and tortillas.

I haven't tried the pouch yet, but I'm going to give it a try the next time I go to the grocery store. I hope it's a lot better than what I've been getting in the cans.

Yes, but even from the pouch I still give it a good "once over" for bones.

We recently purchased Chicken of the Sea light from Food lion and it was mushy! Surpisingly the Food Lion brand was better.
