Going soon....

Anyone been, are there places we should avoid? Are there places we must go to? Any input would be great. Found a ton of sites with awesome things to do, but hoping to get first hand experiences. I really want to swim with dolphins and horseback ride on the beach but it seems there are several places that have some sort of deal.

You might want to re-think Mexico right now. I've read where Govt agencies have internal travel restrictions.....Have not made it public yet.

I really want to swim with dolphins You will love it! I did the deep water adventure at Atlantis earlier this year. We were literally swimming underwater with the dolphins - many of them hurricane Katrina survivors.

They are a bit intimidating and definitely strong, but the experience was amazing and fun. :yay:

Did the dolphins tell you that? How were they able to manage in the flooded streets?

Here's a little information for you.

"The first offspring from the famed rescued “Katrina Dolphins” were born at Dolphin Cay. The first calf was born to 32-year-old Kelly on April 4, 2007. A second calf, was born on April 6, 2007 to 21-year-old Michelle. Kelly, Michelle and 14 of their fellow Dolphin Cay residents, were stranded or swept to sea when their former home at the Marine Life Oceanarium in Gulfport, Mississippi, was destroyed during the infamous Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. After being rescued and nursed back to health, all of the dolphins were eventually transported to Atlantis to fully recover and reside at Dolphin Cay’s new state-of-the-art habitat. “These births are the first successful ones for Dolphin Cay from the rescued ‘Katrina Dolphins’ that are expecting offspring, a true testament to the full recovery and acclimation of these miraculous animals.” said Frank Murru, Chief Marine Officer, Kerzner International."

So dolphins that were "swept out to sea" were rescued?

Yes, when their habitat was destroyed.

Senor Frogs is a really fun place to go to. There is a flea market type of place that everyone told us to go to, we went and I would never want to go there again. We took the bus, which dropped us off three blocks away and in a bad part of the town. Once we made it to the flea market, it was crazy packed with pressure to buy their items.

We went swimming with the dolphins and had a great time. We have not done the jungle tour, but are going back to cancun next month and are planning on doing it then.

We also did a day trip to the Mayan Ruins at Chichen Itza. That was a great tour.

Are you doing an all inclusive hotel?

Yes, when their habitat was destroyed.

 I thought the sea was their habitat

For wild marine life it is. But when you have animals that have been living in captivity - such as some of these dolphins - I'm not sure you can expect them to survive long in the wild. The "Katrina" dolphins were "swept to sea" when their habitat was destroyed. They were not in open waters.

Called to ask a question and was told the trip was canceled because of the swine flu. Oh well, I just went and made plans to go to Orlando, visit some family and go to the parks.

:huggy: I'm sorry you can't go to Mexico but better to be safe than sorry. I figured it was because of the swine flu but didn't know for sure. Hubby had won a short trip to Mexico for this past April but we had told them we couldn't go because my son was due in March, too soon for us to leave him 2-3 wks later.

Well, you'll still have a blast in FL and shouldn't have to worry about getting sick. When do you leave?

Thank you. I'm sure you're right and yes, better to be safe than sorry. With all the violence down there right now, I was a little worried anyway, guess everything happens for a reason.
