Why is it that women are so hard on themselves and the cutest gals will still criticize their looks or weight or whatever. Yet the gnarliest guy who really has nothing going for him thinks he's god's gift?
It's like, dude! What are you seeing in the mirror???? I never understand that.

I think its fake. Like if you tell yourself something enough you're bound to believe it one day. They can act like God's gift but if you look at how a great many of them act its clear they have zero self worth.

I'm not sure if you've been out in public lately, but, tragically, not ALL women are hard on themselves. At least not 'hard' in a level of commitment to appearance that I would recognize as more effort than my cat put out today.
As for the deeper meaning as regards men, it goes back to hunter/gatherer; if we don't have enough gumption to go out and spread our seed or hunt or gather, we die off. That is a biological, DNA level motivation to say "Hey baby, what's yer sign?" no matter how hideous we actually are. Survival of the "I am it" ist.

MK and I were in Ross a couple weekends ago and there was a girl in her early 20s with a belly shirt on and a whole lot of belly hanging out of it. The little girl in line behind her commented on it. :lmao:

I dunno - some of them are faking pretty heavy. Self confidence is always attractive, but me-me-me :diva: coming from a lamer guy is what you enjoy moments of hilarity about with your girlfriends later.
Usually women who are stuck on themselves have something to be stuck about - they're cute or have a good body or whatever. But guys will be stuck on themselves and it's like....????

But these same guys are the ones that will usually lay pipe in whatever will let them. Not exactly the model of self esteem.
I know some women who don't have much to be pompous about yet they walk around and dress like they just stepped out of a magazine. I have a pretty healthy self esteem and have often looked at these people like I wished I had a quarter of the ego they did.
The difference is mine is genuine. I see my faults along with my benefits. Checks and balances. These people don't have that built in good sense. Negative attention is still attention; if they scream loud enough that they are the $hit than someone somewhere may believe it.

I think it is an expectation level versus a reality level. I watched this old Dateline episode on MSNBC today where this man who clearly was not a top shelf candidate fell in love and was duped basically by a scammer over the internet. The pictures that were sent were of an adult star and not even of the person he was being scammed by. I was like Hello man , Do you really think this super hot chick wants to live in your mom's house with you in the basement and your 50 and she young hot and 25? He was devastated and It just really made me wonder. I know there is someone for everyone but he really needed a reality check.

Unless of course the girl is gold diggin but I'd be willing to bet those dudes don't pick up women in the grocery store.

I wasn't averse to older guys, but they had to have something going on: either good-looking, or intelligent or funny or something attractive. But then there'd be some guy my age who was just stupid and for some reason he'd think I should be interested in him.
I was always a dork magnet, anyway, because I tend to be nice to people and they think I really mean it.

While I was working there was this younger and unattractive guy trying to flirt with me to get what he wanted (which was something I explained that was against our policy....). After asking me for the umpteenth time if he could have this something he sticks his bottom lip, bats his eyes at me and says, "PWEEESE". I look at him dead in the face and say for the billionth time NO and add, "you're not even cute" hoping he would knock it off.
I'm thinking his mommy still powders his ass.

Can I get a :whoosh:... The point was even at that age looking a few years younger what in the hell was a 50something year old man hitting on me for? What was going through his head? Did he think I was going to jump on him right in the middle of the grocery store and tell him I'd been waiting for him? There's a lot of older guys dating way younger chicks in this area  More than I've seen in any other area, if we're going to be honest. Example, a couple my parents used to live next to... she's my age (29), he's my parents age (49). Gross is what I think it is... there is no way in hell I would EVER consider dating anyone my parent's age... but it's accepted as the norm around here

I find this odd. How can a person who celebrates anything and everything "unconventional" regarding sex or relationships say a 20 year age difference in a hetero couple is "Gross" yet 2 guys in lipstick and skirts coating each other in baby oil and stroking each others scrotum hair while an attendant wearing a donkey mask gives them welts with a riding crop is A-OK?

Because it skeeves me out to even contemplate the idea of dating someone near my father's age. I know how I talk with my girls when I'm hanging out, I know how guys talk to their guys when they're hanging out, and I'm not keen on the idea of "shop" talk happening with dude's peers, which may or may not include my parents since they're of the same age.
It grosses my parents out too that he's dating a chick as old as their daughter :ohwell:

You glazed over that part. I don't take issue with it at all. Grown people can do whatever they want BUT it amazes me when an older person approaches a younger person in an abrupt manner. That's what gives me the heebie geebies. It's one thing if it's an older person that you're familiar with that knows you actually have a personality; it's another when they have no clue and are just acting like horn dogs.

You do have to remember men are not the only ones that date out of their age limits! So is it ok for women to date younger guys?
Kris HAVE YOU OR HAVE YOU NOT BRAGGED ABOUT DATING A YOUNGER GUY? Although he may not have been 20 years younger or so, I do think you have bragged about you taking the "Cougar" status.

#2, there's nothing wrong with men or women dating someone who's older or younger than them... but 20 years, for me personally, is too big of a stretch. It's silly to think everyone is going to be the exact same age range, but I'll go 10 years up or 5 years down. COUGAR: Women in their 40s who smoke, drink and go to clubs and pick up men in their 20s. Cougars are often divorced, sometimes with cubs and financially independent.
PUMA: Women in their 30s, also referred to as "cougars in training."
COUGAR CUBS: Women in their 20s.
WILLING PREY: Men.
WHITETAIL DEER: The preferred choice of prey for cougars, usually men in their 20s.
LIVESTOCK: Married men, not that desirable, but an option if prey is scarce. Also known as "domesticated."
ENDANGERED SPECIES: Nice guys.
GAME WARDEN: Men in their 40s and 50s. Not that desirable because they carry tranquillizer guns and relocate cougars against their will.
GURUS: Successful self-made men who have made lots of money, usually in their 40s and 50s. To be closely studied but not hunted.
ROADKILL: One-night stands

An old man speaks to you in a store and you want to call the cops on him. Now we see why you don't have many friends
That wasn't very nice.

:roflmao:

Carded by the door person :nono: They don't get any tips.

#2, there's nothing wrong with men or women dating someone who's older or younger than them... but 20 years, for me personally, is too big of a stretch. It's silly to think everyone is going to be the exact same age range, but I'll go 10 years up or 5 years down.
For dating purposes yes, it is stupid to go more than 15 years either way. For just fun and friends, it's totally Ok with me... Been there a lot! I just can't date gals near my age.
Guys want young, hot and lively women. Most men (not all) would jump at the opportunity. (Why do you think Hooters always packed)?
Some women look for a "daddy figure" to protect and take care of them (looks irrelevant in most cases). Why do I see soo many "babes" with "duds"? What do they see in them? Just what I said.
Not many of you ladies would turn down a guy 25 years older than you if he pulled up to a dock in a yacht or cigarette boat and asked if you'd like to go out for the day, would ya???
Nor would you 40 & 50 year old ladies turn down that 21 year old Chippendale dancer...Fess up; I've heard you talk about it...
I think it's skeevy for anyone of any age to approach in an abrupt manner. You're supposed to feel out the situation first, see if there's any interest or any impediments (such as a SO) before you go for it.
Although I agree with you, I must say:

I wasn't averse to older guys, but they had to have something going on: either good-looking, or intelligent or funny or something attractive. But then there'd be some guy my age who was just stupid and for some reason he'd think I should be interested in him.
I was always a dork magnet, anyway, because I tend to be nice to people and they think I really mean it.

With the divorce rate around 65% (?) now, it's all a crapshoot -so who cares?
There's a hill for every billy out there.
I actually feel kind of sorry for the poor "freaks" - they must get smacked down a lot looking for their matches...

Speaking from my own experience... less drama yes, more respect not necessarily.
