View Full Version : Help! Found a really nice kitty in PF

My neighbor said this kitten started hanging around her house yesterday. She followed me back to my house so, I couldnt' leave her out in the rain and took her in for tonight.
She can't stay long before I'll have to take her to the FOF or Humane Society. I would love to keep her, but I already have 2 cats and a German Shepherd puppy.
I am positive that this kitten belongs to someone around here as she is extremely friendly and lets me hold her for a long time. She's really pretty, with white socks, a cute face and really bushy tale. Gets along really well with my other 2 cats. Definitely NOT a feral stray! She's about 2, maybe 2.5 months old.
I live south of Prince Frederick, almost to Port Republic, so if this is your kitty or you know who it might belong to, please PM me. I'm going to ask around the neighborhood during the day and if I have no luck tomorrow, I'll hold on to her (as long as I'm allowed) if someone wants her.....otherwise, its to the shelter. :frown:
Hard to take a good pic of her as she won't sit and pose for the camera.

How pretty...a classic tabby. Looks a little older..maybe 3 mos. Wonder if she's chipped? Can you feel her belly for a spay scar? I might be able to help you tomorrow...I'm off work.
I'll post in the morning.

Yeah, I couldnt' feel anything on her belly. She doesn't look like she's been spayed to me.
I have to work tomorrow, unfortunately. If I get home in time, I'll run her by the vet and see if they can scan her. Thanks for your post... if you can help, that woudl be great.

Get her to the vet and check for a microchip...
If that is a problem, PM me..I have an AVID scanner and can scan her if needed.
Thanks for taking her in...she looks well fed and healthy.
But just the same, keep her seperated from your cats for safety sake.

I'm going to call PF Animal Hosp and take her after work. (I got a soft spot for strays. If I weren't married, I'd definitely be a crazy cat lady.....Hubby says its enough that I'm just plain crazy right now...don't need to add to it.)
Anyway, 'Socks' (as the daughter has named her) would make someone a really nice pet. She's nicer than my snobby cats. Ha! I'll let you know what happens at the vet.

Great place, PF! They know me well. Wonder if she could be a boy? If he was neutered at young age, it can be somewhat hard to tell. Let me know how it goes....I love the tabbies...I have one very similar.

Good Luck!

I think they're starting to loathe me and my psychotic GSD puppy. :lmao: I don't know what it is with that dog... she behaves on the way in, behaves in the exam room. But as soon as she hits the lobby (by the scales and the treat jar) she turns into the tasmanian devil. :ohwell: it's going slow trying to get her to stop yapping at other dogs and calm down.....ahhhhh puppies. lol

How old is he? Did the vet give you an estimate? He doesn't have much chance if he goes to the shelter.

Actually, the humane society in Calvert is a no-kill shelter according to their website.

There is a very long thread about this in the dog section, but they send animals to Tri-County to be put down. So, while they don't actually euthanize the animals there, the animals won't be truly safe there.

ALL shelters are loaded now...many with SICK cats so they are limited as to what they can take it.
I'm trying to find out if I can take him and hang on to him but I want to be sure he's somewhat compatible with the little guy I have now.

All our cats at Calvert Humane are in foster homes. I have several fosters that are non adoptable for various reasons, so they live here forever with my own cats.
We do not take cats to the shelter to have them put down.

It was Charles County that was referred to but Calvert has been known to transfer dogs to Tri County, yes.

I dont think he's neutered. The raisins look intact. No testing either. That's why I have to take him to the shelter. I just called and here is what the charge is going to be to get him set up:
$42 exam
$18 distemper
$45 FeLV screening
$21 Rabies
$23 FeLV vaccination
A grand whopping total of $149 plus tax. If I didn't have puppy vaccinations due on the 1st, and wasn't going out of town, I might could do that, but I just can't right now. I can only provide for the critters I have. :frown:

I've been trying to get some information so that I could possibly take him.
Did the vet give you an age estimate? Weight? Any other information from the vet visit?
Will Calvert Humane be able to take him? Do they have a foster home for him?

07-30-2009, 12:51 PM
Yah, like I mentioned, unfortunately I can't afford to take him to the vet. I only took him to get scanned for a microchip. You know how PF is, if you pay for an exam, you have to get the shots, and this and that... I just can't do it. He hasn't had anything so far.

So...did you put out FOUND CAT notices around your neighborhood?
Anyone claim her?
Did you put her in a quarentine situation to evaluate her for any health issues?
Why cant you keep her?
Why cant you get her vetted?
Did you check with local groups to get $$$ for a vet visit?

Katelin:
Not everyone has resources and funds to vet a stray cat. She did take it in and is trying to do right by the kitten.
And, actually, I'm of the belief that if somebody really wants their kitten back, they should put up lost posters. But that's just me.
I'll take responsibility for the kitten.

Hey now lady, you're asking some personal questions that really are nobody's business. I was being gracious by taking in this kitten instead of leaving him out in a thunderstorm. I'm doing the right thing by taking him to the shelter instead of leaving him roaming around to impregnate other cats.
Staying with me is not an option and I don't really have to explain why. I've given plenty of info on what I know about the cat. He has no shots, is not neutered. He IS very friendly and would make a great pet for someone. Either someone is willing to take him as-is, or they aren't. I don't think that deserves an inquisition.

I picked up Griffin Saturday morning. What a nice boy! He is just beautiful...really nice markings. He has a very loud motor! I'd say he's about 4.5 months old. He is going to be a big man!
He's going to be neutered tomorrow and then will be ready for a forever home by the weekend. He will be going to the PAWS adoption event at Petco in California.
If you are looking for a really nice, laid back kitty, Griffin is your boy!

He is being "tutored" today. He'll get his rabies shot and his microchip. After a day of hissing at Garth (the 6 week old kitten) they are now best buds. He will go to his first adoption event this weekend.
Biscuit is okay...we can't get into see the oncologist until August 18. Thanks for asking.
