Lime, salt, pepper, jalapeno, and garlic.

I think it is a maryland thing because my family makes and cans salsa every year.... and it never taste like the authentic mexican salsa I am used to. Theirs has more of a chili flavor to it. They add the oregano and basil and some other stuff to it.

My salsa is tomatoes, diced red onion, garlic, lemon, jalapeno (& any other peppers I have on hand) tons of cilantro and that is pretty much it!

No on the basil and oregano and cayenne. Forgot lime juice, and you have to chop! Stop being lazy. Sometimes I also like to add black beans and corn if I'm in the mood for something different.

What'd I leave out?

Basil and oregano?? Hmmm, try this:

tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime, jalepeno and a little garlic

No blender. Dice the tomatoes and onion, dice the jalepeno really small and press the garlic. Cut the cilantro and squeeze the lime over everything.

Fry some quartered corn tortillas and put them in a paper bag to absorb the extra oil.

Get a beer...eat your homemade chips and salsa.

ANNNND if you like guacamole......cut some avocados in half lengthwise, take out the seed, scoop the green goop out and fork it in a bowl a little...add some of your salsa and enjoy :yay:

My grandma is going to cry when I tell her you're using things like basil, oregano and old bay

I mean, I guess it would be a different kind of salsa...it's probably good. I think lime and fresh (gotta be fresh) cilantro makes a world of difference
