my vets office always administers pain meds when they do surgery like that. I couldn't see making my animal suffer (as I am an animal lover). what vet did you have do her spay?

Just think how sad she would be if she popped out litter after litter of unwanted kittens.

:yeahthat: And not to mention how sad she could be if she had the health issues that non-spayed kitties tend to develop.

Just take pics of her and her cone. You'll giggle each time she bumps into something or tries to eat.

I don't remember ever giving any of my animals pain medication after being fixed.
They were miserable the day I brought them home (that I do remember) and slept most of the evening, but the next day, they were up and around.
Kudos for fixing your kitty though! :yahoo:

They were just asking about a pain shot before she goes home i believe..which i thought they did automatically.

Maybe it was because you brought her in with the voucher. Perhaps the cost of the shot is extra and they wanted to make sure you were willing to pay for it? There may be some that come in with the voucher that cannot afford anything extra. I do not know for sure, but it would make sense.

Thats what I was hoping.

My girls go to Tidewater and they always ask the question about pain meds before surgeries. Basically, they automatically dose them afterwards if needed, but if you want them to have pain meds during the surgery, you have to sign a form for that. Usually, they don't need meds during the surgery since they are under anesthesia anyway, but some people feel better if they receive pain meds in addition. At least that's the way it's always been for me.
Good luck to your kitty and she'll be much happier not having kitty periods!! I'm sure you'll be much happier too -- no Toms hanging around when she is in heat, she won't be rubbing all over or meowing, etc. Kitties can get a little loco when they're in heat!!

I just got both of my pups done. I was perplexed by this too when they asked. I said of course. But turned out, my little girl needed two doses and the boy needed none. Maybe they are trying to reduce the amount of "drugs" on the street.

Some vets don't give pain medicine after the surgery because if they are not feeling the pain too much they tend to over do it once home. If they are a little sore it will help to remind them to stay quiet and let the healing begin. The next day (if they're young) they will be ready to play. An older, larger dog may take a day or two.

Dont worry....Tidewater is the best!!! They are absolutely fabulous!!! I took all my cats there to be spayed and neutered, and they were wonderful!! THey also used to handle all my livestock. Fabulous people!!! I drive over an hour to get to them, past several other vets, because they are definitely worth it. Your kitten will be very well cared for.....
Give her extra snuggles and kisses when she gets home.....

Your kitty will be fine!
Usually, the effects of the anesthesia take a while to wear off.
She will be up and running in 24 hours!
I like it that vets give pain meds now!
And her sad face is a good thing...tell her she can now fool around and not get preggo...then watch her smile!!! (just kidding)
Give her time to recover tonight and she will be fine tomorrow!!! Cheers for getting her spayed!!! :buddies:
